The Suns came into this season thinking they’d be title contenders, but let’s be real—it’s been a mess. With Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal on the same squad, they were supposed to run through the West. Instead, they’re sitting below .500, just trying to stay in the Play-In race. And now, things just got worse—Booker’s out against the Rockets. So, what’s going on? And what does this mean for a team that can’t seem to catch a break?
Booker sustained a lower back contusion after the Suns’ match-up against the Grizzlies which happened on Tuesday. Booker persisted through his injury while playing 40 minutes and scored 17 points along with nine assists and two rebounds. After the match, Mike Budenholzer instantly recognized that his player needed rest.
“It’s unfortunate. He was pretty stiff by the time we were leaving the arena,” Coach Budenholzer noted. It was clear that the decision to rest Booker was primarily a safety measure rather than a sign of panic. The good news? Per team expectations, Booker will make a complete recovery before the All-Star break begins. The bad news? At this moment, Phoenix could really use his help.

And honestly, the timing couldn’t be worse. The Suns are already without Grayson Allen (knee) and Bradley Beal (toe), leaving their backcourt rotation super thin. Without Book, they’re rolling with Ty Washington and Ryan Dunn—not exactly an ideal scenario when you’re fighting for a playoff spot.
Right now, the team is sitting at 26-28, clinging to the 11th seed in the West, with a 3-7 record in the last 10 games. Their struggles have been obvious for a while, but now, with one of their best players sidelined, things could get really bad. Can they survive this brutal stretch without him?
Is Kevin Durant Planning His Suns’ Exit While Devin Booker Sits Out? Shocking Updates Revealed
Booker’s physical injury remains the top issue at the moment, but Phoenix faces a different challenge with Kevin Durant’s pending decision. Time passed during the trade deadline without Phoenix making an official deal, which doesn’t indicate they are free from risk.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst just dropped a bombshell: “He’s probably going to get traded this summer.” According to him, KD knows it, the Suns know it, and the rest of the league knows it too.
Apparently, Phoenix was already testing the waters, having trade talks with teams like the Warriors, Heat, and Rockets. Nothing happened this time, but it’s pretty clear the idea isn’t off the table.

So why would the Suns even consider moving KD? Simple. They’ve got a massive $230 million payroll, their roster chemistry is all over the place, and despite having three stars, they’re not even in the playoff picture! On top of that, Brett Siegel from Clutch Points reported that Durant wasn’t too thrilled about being floated in trade talks. So yeah, this isn’t just going to fade away.
Kevin Durant himself didn’t exactly shut down the rumors either. After the trade deadline, he said, “I always had a goal of playing my contract out and seeing what happens… I can’t focus on a year and a half down the line.” Translation? He’s not asking out right now, but he knows this situation is shaky, at best.

The Suns face an important decision point because of Booker’s injury and Durant’s forthcoming free agency choices. The team might create one of the largest failures in franchise history if they fail to transform their strategy following the All-Star break.
So what do you think? Can Phoenix turn things around when Booker comes back? Or is this just the beginning of the end of yet another “Big Three” failure? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
