“Bettering myself is always something that I’m working on,” Draymond Green had said of his therapy, during a chat with Howard Beck of The Ringer. Well, it looks like he might just have to work a little bit harder because the man is once again in the headlines thanks to a testy back-and-forth with a veteran journalist on the Warriors’ media day. When it was his turn for a question, the reporter, Scott Osler of the San Francisco Chronicle, decided to go the uncomfortable route.
Considering the 33 years of experience the man has in mainstream media and with different sports, it’s not surprising Osler would ask what needed to be asked. On that note, why don’t we take a deeper look into the man who got under Draymond’s skin?

Scott Osler was with the Los Angeles Times before joining the SF Chronicle in 1991. Before that, the man has worked in over 50+ organizations (from The Union Democrat to MSN Canada) honing his craft. A 13x California Sportswriter of the Year (six of which were at SFC), he has tried his hand as an author, and considering he has five non-fiction books to his name, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that they were a success. He’s covered 5 Olympics, multiple Super Bowls, the NBA Finals, and a FIFA World Cup too.
Osler also has collaborated with other authors as well as national publications, per his profile in the San Francisco Chronicle. But the 75-year-old did not just stick to writing. Or sports, for that matter. He wrote a daily around-town column for 3 years. Needless to say, it took him on some real-world trips. Moreover, Osler also penned a humorous weekly column for a year while still covering sports.
Given the man’s age and the respect he garners in the journalism community (33 years in the SF Chronicle alone! Imagine the total experience he has covering nearly every major sport), the least Draymond Green could have done is to know when to stop…
After all, it is one of the biggest worries of fans going into this season.
They need to know that the Dubs’ floor general will be on the court consistently, taking care of things, if the team has any hope of making a playoff run. However, it wasn’t a topic Green was too keen on. And he let the older man know it.

Perhaps knowing where the conversation was headed, Draymond Green decided to go the defensive route. Not that his feisty response helped his case in any way, either. “Why they worry about me? I’m a successful Black man in America doing incredibly well. What’s the worry about me? There are way more people in this world to worry about than me, that’s for sure… I don’t think you should worry about me. I’m doing pretty well,” he noted.
Scott Osler, though, was clearly referring to the indefinite suspension that led to Draymond Green’s absence during crucial periods for the Dubs. The veteran journalist further pointed out that the fans needed to know if he “was going to be here every night.”
The 34-year-old, for his part, wasn’t having any of it. “The guideline of getting suspended is something that’s in place because it’s a possibility,” Draymond Green said, maintaining a diplomatic stance rather than allay the fears of fans with a simple ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Although Osler tried his best to get to the point, after going back and forth for nearly 2 minutes, the veteran forward had enough.
“It’s all about how you spin it. I love how you’re trying to spin it — but it ain’t my spin to it, player,” Dray finally said, putting an end to everything. And just like that, the hooper dared anyone else to try the same trick again.
Hopefully, this isn’t a sign of what we can expect from him going into the season. Then again, the 4x champion did say, “When I’m competing on the court, when I’m doing my job, that’s not the same person you’re going to deal with on a daily basis.”
