After a thirteen-year-long wait, the Dallas Mavericks are finally heading back to the NBA Finals. While many expected tonight’s game to be a competitive one, Luka Doncic and Co. came into Target Center and dominated the Wolves 124-103 to close out the series in five games. And along with the entire Mavs franchise and their fanbase, it was also a moment of happiness and joy for their new governor, Patrick Dumont.

Taking control of the franchise from Mark Cuban just a few months ago after the blockbuster $3.5 billion sale, Dumont was the first to lift the Western Conference Championship trophy after Dallas won. And swelling with pride, he said at the podium, “We did this for the city of Dallas and for our fans.”

While Cuban spent his entire tenure as the Mavs owner and Governor in the limelight, not much is known about Patrick Dumont. Tying the knot with Miriam Adelson’s daughter Sivan Ochshorn back in 2009, Dumont became part of the Adelson family. Then, joining the family business a year later, Dumont served in a variety of roles related to finance and strategy at Sands Corp. After serving a few years as the CFO, Dumont has now become the President and COO of the esteemed organization.

But even before Patrick became a part of the family that owns the Mavs, he had an incredible knack for business and finance. After initially studying mechanical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, Dumont went on to get an MBA degree from the Columbia Business School. Then, he spent the initial years of his career working in multiple investment banking firms and building his business IQ.

Patrick Dumont has big plans for the Dallas Mavericks

While conquering the West and lifting the Conference Championship within months of owning the franchise is more than what Dumont could have hoped for, he doesn’t plan on stopping here. As the Mavs now prepare to go up against the Celtics and hopefully win their second title in franchise history, the new Governor hopes to one day build a one-of-a-kind arena for the city of Dallas where they can book their stays while enjoying the games all at the same time.

“You know, there’s always a dream that people have, where you can stay in a top-flight hotel room and then go down in an elevator bank, get something to eat and then walk into the arena and it’s all one space. It’s a pretty unique experience and it’s great for the fans. And so, if we can create a home for the Dallas Mavericks where that’s a possibility, I think that would be pretty good.” Dumont said in an interview with The Dallas Morning News back in February.
