As an NBA fan, you may have caught the video of Oklahoma City Thunder players piling towels on a reporter while he tried to interview Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. But if you are a Thunder fan, then you WILL have recognized him instantly. For it was beloved sideline reporter Nick Gallo trying to keep a straight face through the prank on national TV.

For years now, Gallo has been covering the recent happenings with Oklahoma. So who is Nick Gallo? And how did he come to report for the Oklahoma City Thunder? Let’s see if we can answer those questions for you.

Per his LinkedIn profile, Nick Gallo has been covering sports for the last 17 years. He boasts an incredible resume having covered events for the NFL and NBA as a sideline reporter on TV, play-by-play announcer, and digital host. For the first 7 years of his association with OKC, Nick was a digital content reporter who started with them in 2012.

In 2019, he was reassigned as a broadcast reporter and digital editor. Ever since, he has been a constant presence, conducting various interviews for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Nick credits his success to his strong interviewing, writing, reporting, and producing skills.

He has worked on several high-profile jobs, one of the first being his media relations internship at the Tennessee Titans. After this, he came back to Vanderbilt University, this time as a research assistant at the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. A year after this, he would join the New York Jets as a Season-Long Publications Intern and Media Relations Graduate Assistant.

Upon the conclusion of his time at the Jets, he would join OKC in the role mentioned above. He is beloved by OKC fans and players alike, and the bond was on full display during the aforementioned prank. We don’t usually see interactions like those between players and media, do we?

Which university did he attend? What did he major in?

Gallo completed his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. His area of study was political science and corporate strategy. He also supplemented his degree with an additional focus on the Communications/Public Speaking curriculum and Political Science Independent Study.

Aside from his degree, Nick Gallo was also involved in running the Vanderbilt Hustler Newspaper in college, while also being a part of the Undergraduate Consulting Club at Vanderbilt. Furthermore, he was a part of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, a popular frat for Vanderbilt attendees. 

Is Nick Gallo married? Does he have kids?

Nick Gallo is married to Madeline Schrunk-Gallo, formerly Madeline Schrunk. A quick look at his Instagram tells us that Gallo has been married for roughly 8 years, though there are no confirmed reports. Gallo seems a devoted husband who often spends time with his wife as evidenced by his Instagram.

Around four years ago, Nick shared a post with the caption, “Baby Gallo set to arrive in October!” So it is confirmed that he has children, however, rather disappointingly, that is all of the information available to us. His wife’s bio does read, “Mom to Camellia 🌸 Leo 🦁 Julien 🚀 and Heidi 🐕🦺”.

However, at present, we can only speculate whether those are the names of his children or the names of his children with the names of their pets sprinkled in. Regardless, Nick Gallo does appear to have quite a happy family supporting his career as a journalist.

With the media and NBA personnel constantly at each other’s throats, a presence like Nick Gallo is greatly appreciated. Both by OKC fans and fans of rival teams!
