Miles Bridges is a name that has become synonymous with explosive dunks and dynamic play. The Hornets forward has been a pivotal part of the team’s resurgence. But while Bridges’ life on-court is flashy, his off-court display has been a mix of controversy and scrutiny. Why? You might ask. Well, the 26-year-old former Michigan State player’s off-court issues have raised concerns over his place in the NBA! This is related to his dating life, so without further adieu, let’s get to know more about Miles’ life beyond the court.
Who is Miles Bridges’ ex-girlfriend Mychelle Johnson? Did the Hornets star face charges of domestic violence?
When you’re an NBA star, it’s only natural to grab the headlines, but for Miles Bridges, it was NOT for the right reasons. The Hornets star started dating Mychelle Johnson in 2016, way before he was an NBA star. After dating each other for some time, they decided to tie the knot, but their wedding date is not known publicly. Additionally, Miles and Mychelle’s married life was going well, so much so that they even had two kids together. The first to come in this world was their son Ace in 2018. They welcomed baby girl Ayla in 2020.

However, their relationship took a turn for the worse on June 29, 2022, when Bridges was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge. This came under the spotlight when Johnson posted a series of now-deleted pictures of her injuries and diagnosis.
She was an “adult victim of abuse by a male partner” which included assault, brain concussion, and other injuries. In the events that followed, on July 19th, 2022, Bridges was charged with one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felonies for counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death, the LA District Attorney’s office said in a statement.
The next day Bridges pleaded not guilty to the felony charge. He was released on a $130k bail initially, but the court sentenced him to three years of probation in November. However, this wasn’t the end, as on October 2023, Bridges found himself in trouble. He was charged with violating his probation when he allegedly threw billiard balls at his wife’s car. He turned himself in the next day and was released upon paying the $1,000 bond. While this matter might’ve ended here, what was to come in his professional life would change Bridges’ life even further.

In his apology, “I want to apologize to everybody for the pain and embarrassment that I have caused everyone, especially my family. This year away I’ve used to prioritize going to therapy and becoming the best person I can be — someone that my family and everyone here can be proud of,” said Bridges. Following a long investigation, the NBA had decided to hand Bridges a 30-game suspension. But this was cut to 10 games after giving him credit for missing the entire 82 games the previous season.
He thanked the Hornets organization for giving him a second shot at his career: “A lot of people don’t get a second chance, and I want to use this second chance to prove to everyone that I’m the same kid you drafted five years ago.” Since then, Bridges has improved and has built good relationships with his teammates and the fanbase. The Hornet continues to navigate through his life and career!
