“If we do what we need to do to get better, all that stuff, I truly believe, will take care of itself at the end of the day.” This is how 4x NBA champion Mike Brown perfectly encapsulates his philosophy on coaching and life. As a coach, we know Brown has built a reputation for his disciplined approach and focus on team development. Having spent two decades in the NBA, and earning two Coach of the Year accolades, his anecdotes are well-documented. But, there’s something about him that not everyone is aware of- his family. So, for that let’s take a deeper look at his loved ones.
Who is Mike Brown’s wife Carolyn Brown? How old is she?
Kings HC is married to Carolyn Brown, who was earlier known as Carolyn Nancy Mossman. Carolyn, who is currently 54 years old, was born on June 23, 1970, in Evergreen, Colorado. Although her parent’s name and identity are not out in public, she was adopted by her parents along with her twin sister, Liz Lockley, when they were just 16 days old. They never had a chance to meet their biological father, as he reportedly passed away by the time they got this knowledge. However, by profession, he was also a coach.

Nevertheless, the sisters met their biological mother and extended family. Despite, her being seen with her husband on various occasions, little is publicly known about her early life. Her close-knit family and strong personal values have played a significant role in supporting her husband’s successful career in the NBA. However, we do have more information on their relationship and its stages.
How did Mike Brown and Carolyn meet? When did the two get married?
This fabled tale began in a Denver bar, where they first met in the early 1990s. Carolyn, who was 23 then, was a student at the University of Colorado. She already had a boyfriend, about which Mike was aware, but looks like they couldn’t help but feel a strong connection. “I thought she was amazing,” Mike said in an interview. Though she initially wasn’t looking for anything serious, the chemistry between them was undeniable. They spent hours talking on the phone the very next night, and as Carolyn puts it, “That was it.”
According to sources, Brown was attracted by her intelligence and authenticity. They were already inseparable within just four days, as they met on a Thursday, and by Tuesday the couple couldn’t stop themselves. Her twin sister, Liz Lockley, remembers how Carolyn was not herself when she was with him. “Carolyn didn’t ever really get too serious too fast, so for her to do something like that was pretty out of character. So I was shocked. I knew that he had to be a good guy for her to fall like that. After I spent time with him, I could see why. He’s just a genuinely nice person.” Lockley admitted. Mike’s persistence and warmth eventually won over Carolyn and her family.
The relationship moved quickly from there, with the couple sharing a deep bond almost immediately. After a few years of dating, by 1995, the couple tied the knot in the city that had witnessed their love story-Colorado. Their marriage marked the start of a strong partnership that would endure through Mike’s coaching career and their journey as a family. Over time, their love story has remained one of quiet strength and unwavering support. With that side, it’s time to know about what Carolyn does and her career.
What does Carolyn Brown do for a living?
Carolyn Brown is a woman of modest strength whose impact extends far beyond her family life. Talking about her studies, she initially pursued a psychology degree at the University of Colorado before switching to English, hoping to become an educator. After marriage, she chose to focus on being a devoted wife and mother. Still, her desire to make a positive impact didn’t fade.
Although she had a successful career as a teacher, her heart found fulfillment in philanthropy and activism. Carolyn became actively involved in the NBA’s Community Cares initiatives, working to support causes close to her heart. Two causes that particularly resonate with her are domestic violence awareness and racial abuse awareness. Carolyn has been outspoken about both issues, using her platform to educate and advocate for change. She also works to raise awareness about the importance of improving the education system, particularly for young women.
She is also deeply committed to speaking directly to young people, especially young women. Apart from that, she regularly gives talks at schools, including at the Douglas MacArthur Girls Leadership Academy in Cleveland, where she inspires students to follow their passions and believe in themselves. Toni Miller, the principal of the Academy, spoke highly of Carolyn, calling her, “She is just a blessing, so wonderful. I talk about her all the time — almost nonstop. She’s just so down-to-earth — and so committed. She’s such a wonderful woman.” Miller said.
While she has embraced these speaking engagements, she admits that being in the spotlight hasn’t been easy for her. She’s a private person by nature and never sought public attention. Her sister has seen her growth in this area, recalling how nervous she was the first time Carolyn appeared on TV and radio. Yet, she has learned that her words can have a lasting impact. And despite her initial hesitations, she continues to use her voice for good.
However, Carolyn herself has admitted it, acknowledging the discomfort that comes with the attention “I’m trying to embrace it. I’d never seek it, but I’m learning how to deal with it. I’d like to try and make a difference, as small as it is, for the people in Cleveland.” Through her quiet yet powerful actions, Carolyn Brown proves that one doesn’t need to seek fame to make a significant difference. Now we know her life and what she is interested in, but her heart still lies with her children.
How many kids does Mike Brown have with Carolyn?
The Browns have two sons, Elijah and Cameron, and just like their parents, they have craved their paths in sports and academics. Elijah, their older son, was born on February 19, 1995, in Denver, Colorado. With an impressive height of 6’4″, he was a standout athlete from a young age, playing basketball at Mater Dei High School in Los Angeles before heading to college. He played for Butler University from 2013 to 2016, then transferred to the University of New Mexico, and eventually finished his college basketball career with the Oregon Ducks. Today, Elijah continues his basketball journey, playing professionally overseas.

Cameron, born in May 1997, followed a different athletic route, excelling in football. He attended Mater Dei High School like his brother and went on to play for Case Western Reserve University. There, he became an All-America defensive end. After graduating in 2020 with a degree in business management, Cameron remained connected to the football program as a coach, while also taking on roles in business and marketing. He even worked as a sales representative at Vektor Marketing and interned with the NBA Summer League.
Despite their children’s busy athletic careers and Mike’s demanding coaching job, the Brown family prioritizes time together at home. In an interview with Cleveland.com, Carolyn revealed, “Mike and I are private people. Our favorite place to be is at home, although Mike might say the second would be in the gym with one of our kids. But we are not very social people. Anywhere with just the four of us is the greatest place for us.” With such a close relationship it’s clear that the Brown family dynamic is effortlessly balancing their careers and quality family time!
