One reason the Boston Celtics play at the highest level is thanks to the number of skilled players who could easily step up as and when needed. Luke Kornet is one of them. Along with Al Horford, the 7’2 giant of the Cs has found his calling with the ‘Beantown’. Born to former Milwaukee Bucks player, Frank Kornet and Nashville TV news anchor, Tracy Kornet, basketball wasn’t easy for Luke. A late bloomer, young Kornet was sure the last game he played would be in his school, Argyle Liberty Christian in 2013. Kornet was sure he wouldn’t be receiving any offers, so he had a backup plan.
The Kentucky native was smart off the court. Salutatorian of his senior class, Luke finished with a 34 out of 36 on his ACT (American College Test) and a perfect score on the math section. Seeing as he had the brains to land a good job, Luke planned to study mechanical engineering or computer science. And in the process, maybe, just maybe, join the basketball team. If not that, become a team manager. But his dream of making it to the NBA hung over the youngster.
From zero offers to being the hot stuff

Having gone against three of the greatest NBA greats (MJ, Magic, and Bird) during his time with the Bucks (1989-91), Frank Kornet knew his son had the skills. Never the one to push either of his three children to his sport, Kornet Sr. was pleasantly surprised when his daughter, Nicole Kornet, and son gravitated towards basketball.
So when Luke did not receive any offers, he decided to try something. If it works, it works. And boy, did it work! A few months after high school, Frank signed his son to an AAU tryout. Not only did Luke Kornet make the team, but after their first tournament, the phone in the Kornet house was ringing non-stop with college offers.
They included top names like Purdue, Arizona, Kansas State, TCU, and, of course, Vanderbilt. Unsurprisingly, Luke chose Vanderbilt. One, because of its academic reputation (don’t forget, he’s a brainiac! So studies matter). Secondly, his parents were also Vanderbilt alums. When he was done with the Commodores, Kornet Jr. had reached 7’1, weighed 250 pounds, and became the all-time NCAA career leader in three points by players 7 feet or taller!

Of course, you would remember that he went undrafted on the 2017 draft night, but the Knicks signed him to a two-way contract. And now, Luke is part of an elite team looking to clinch that 18th title and his first. What about his life off the court, though?
Two athletes, two kids, and one soul – Luke Kornet and Tierney Kornet
Tierney Price (before she became part of the Kornets), was a conference level triple jumper at Vanderbilt. And Luke Kornet was on the basketball team of the same college. Born to Maura and Rob Price, Tierney was just as competitive as her future husband. She competed at the SEC Conference Championships during her freshman, sophomore, and senior years. Unfortunately, junior year was one for rest and rehab thanks to an ACL tear.
However, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise, too. In an interview with SB Nation Anchor of Gold in 2018, Tierney recounted a fun incident. “We actually got hurt junior year around the same time and had some quality time in the training room. Luke took me to the hospital while he was on crutches at one point, when I had to get an MRI. That was a funny scene.” This chat happened not too long after the pair were engaged.
When did Luke Kornet and Tierney Price get married?
Having started dating in 2015, Luke popped the question in 2018 at the scenic Wagner Cove in Central Park. It looks like neither of them is active on social media. So, whatever photos we do get are from their close family members.

The pair finally said their ‘I Dos’ on August 2, 2019, at the Woodlands Country Club. But it seems like the photography team hired for the Kornet wedding got the nod to post the moments on their website. So, for those looking for photos of the happy couple (or wedding inspiration), we have got you covered. The Brittany Bay Productions have captured Mr. and Mrs. Kornet’s day beautifully! They decided on Hawaii as their honeymoon destination.
Does the pair have any children?
Luke and Tierney are parents to two children. In fact, during a November 5, 2022 game against the New York Knicks, Kornet suddenly received a call saying that his wife was going into labor. The couple welcomed their second child, a baby girl. “There are things far more important than basketball, and that is definitely one of them. So I was happy to leave,” the Celtics center said. Not just a green flag, but a whole forest! Wouldn’t you say?
Is Tierney Kornet working?
There aren’t any recent updates about Mrs. Kornet’s work. But she does have an employment history. Tierney graduated from Vanderbilt with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2017. Soon after, she interned at Deutsche Bank. It soon turned into a permanent position as an FX Risk Advisory and Sales Analyst. Before this, she held the position of sales representative at EmbroidMe in 2013 and did a marketing internship with GoThink! in 2015.
Well, there you go. A quick look at Luke Kornet’s journey to the NBA and all the details of his wife, Tierney Kornet.
