With so much focus on NBA teams and the players who represent them, the spotlight often moves away from the owners. However, those who’ve stayed aligned with their players for as long as Glen Taylor has, are often acknowledged. Having purchased the Timberwolves back in 1994, the Minnesotan billionaire and politician has spent the last three decades serving as a behind-the-scenes force in the franchise’s stock rise, raising its value from an original purchase price of $94 million to a whopping $2.9-$3.1 billion!

Over the last few years, however, he hasn’t been alone in this journey. Today, his beau, Becky, remains an important part of the everyday functioning of the NBA team, especially during the recent acquisition dispute. Therefore, without any further ado, let us know more about the 83-year-old’s life partner.

Born in 1980 back in Illinois, Becky Mulvihill is described as someone with a mindset for business from an early age. According to an article by Hudson Farmhouse, Mulvihill would often follow her father to his ‘tiny grocery store’. She would see him interact with clients, giving her a lesson in communication that would remain with her for ages. She graduated from college with a degree in Business Administration. Despite this, she found success as a sportscaster.

No one has reported the exact details of when she and Glen Taylor met. However, the duo married back in 2007.

Taylor had earlier married a woman named Glenda. However, after 33 years of marriage, they divorced in 1990. Becky, herself was once married before meeting the NBA team owner. For an unknown period, a businessman named Jim Mulvihill was with her. Reports reveal that Jim and Glen knew each other well. Unfortunately, Jim passed away because of an unspecified ailment.

No one reported how many children Becky had with her first husband. However, they revealed that they played an important role in getting her and Glen together. Even after she got together with Glen Taylor, Becky continued being an important part of the Jim Mulvihill Memorial. During the annual tournament of the foundation, she captured the headlines by throwing the first pitch too.

Could Becky Mulvihill be the future face of the Timberwolves' ownership? What are your thoughts?

Have an interesting take?

Over the years, Becky Mulvihill has made several public appearances with her husband, most prominently during the Timberwolves matchups. In fact, being alongside the Wolves’ owner even put her at the receiving end of uncalled criticism at one point in time!

Was Becky Mulvihill once accused of being a trophy wife?

Back in 2015, it was reported that Becky had shown an interest in participating in the NBA Draft Lottery. This report came only a year after Milwaukee Bucks owner Wes Edens had his daughter, Mallory, participate in the event. Unfortunately, Becky was a year too late, as the then newly implemented ‘no family’ rule prevented her from being a part of the lottery.

Under normal circumstances, that would have been the end of it. However, Chris Sheridan, a writer who has worked on shows like Family Guy and Cleveland Show, made things a bit controversial when he covered Becky’s denial in one of his reports. How?

One of the passages in his article contained the following text: “One year after Mallory Edens captivated us all at the NBA draft lottery, a new NBA rule deprived us of a close-up look at the trophy wife of Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor.” He built on this controversial claim during the latter part of his article, by writing, “Yes, this is a shame. But the lottery is not about trophy wives or trophy daughters or even trophies — at least in the short term.”

Many criticized Sheridan’s controversial take.

Even Mallory Edens spoke out in support. After all, it was clear that the ‘trophy daughter’ remark was based on her. She took to her official X account and wrote, “@sheridanhoops so just for clarity, common thread that underwrites “trophy” wife, daughter, and “GF” is women = possessions, right?” Amidst the criticism from Edens and other social media users, Sheridan eventually apologized. He also assured everyone that he had removed his column.

How involved is Becky Mulvihill with the Minnesota Timberwolves? Does she have a chance of becoming the next team owner?

As mentioned above, people often see Becky attending the Timberwolves games alongside her husband. When reports often discuss the term ‘Timberwolves owner,’ both Glen and Becky’s names tend to come together. The one reason why many Timberwolves players may adore Mrs Taylor is because of two words: Lasagna Night.

Every year, the Taylors host the players from both the Timberwolves, and the Minnesota Lynx, for a traditional lasagna dinner at their house in Mankato. As highlighted by Kare, “Becky Taylor makes enough lasagna to feed a few dozen professional basketball players twice a year.” Lynx player Jia Perkins also once said about the Taylors, “They don’t treat you like an outsider. They welcome you with open arms. It’s just the camaraderie of this team and just the organization.”

Any official role that Becky holds in the team is unknown. However, in an interview given back in June, reporter Darron Wolfson highlighted that she could be an important part of the team in the foreseeable future.

“From what I can gather, you are better off, at least for the short term, if you want this group to stay together — we’re talking about luxury tax, 2nd apron, all of that — with Glen Taylor in charge…. Glen and Becky Taylor, because… hey, Glen’s 83, you just never know,” said Wolfson. “So the succession plan, from what I can gather, would be Becky, if something were to, God-forbid, happen to Glen.”

Glen Taylor is currently involved in a legal battle with Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore over the team’s ownership. In light of this, he might not rule out passing the team’s ownership down to the family. Whether this happens is something that only time can answer.
