“Family above everything, at all costs” – This is what defines Derrick Rose despite the glitz and glamor of the NBA. The kid from Englewood has seen almost everything in his professional career, from winning the MVP award to unfortunately turning into a bench veteran following the grave injury. However, there’s one thing that helped him weather the storm: his family. Along with a family photo that surprised the NBA world, let’s take a closer look at Rose’s personal life.

D-Rose has always kept his personal life away from the media’s attention. The veteran baller remained rarely active on his social media handle. However, out of the blue, fans get a glimpse of his personal life through interviews or via his wife, Alaina Anderson’s IG. Rose married Anderson in September 2023, after the couple got engaged in October 2021. The former MVP has two kids with Anderson and another son, Derrick Rose Jr. A. K. A PJ with his ex-girlfriend, Mieka Reese.

Derrick Rose – Wife, fatherhood, and life beyond hooping

Before we talk about Alaina Anderson and his humble family with her, let’s brush a little about his relationship with Mieka Reese. Before Anderson and Rose caught the media’s attention in 2016, the star had a considerably lengthy relationship with Reese. It was a college love story. As per the information available on the internet, the couple began dating in 2007, a year before the Chicago Bulls selected Rose with the No.1 pick. The couple welcomed Rose Jr. to the world in 2012 and reportedly got separated a year later for an unknown reason.

However, despite their differences, the couple still have a healthy relationship, co-parenting PJ. The 12-year-old son, just like his father, found his interest in fashion and took to modeling. Speaking of his interests, Reese said, “PJ has a love for modeling along with a huge and spunky personality…  It’s crazy because it isn’t his mom pushing PJ, it’s PJ pushing himself to model.”

While Derrick Rose’s relationship status remained unknown since 2013, it took a hit after Alaina Anderson came into the picture in 2016. Anderson, who owns the sportswear brand, Keep It Cute Fitness, dropped a boomerang video in which Rose was spotted dancing in the background. Following that, they often made it to the headlines as the rumored couples. In March 2018, the couple welcomed their daughter Layla Malibu Rose, and in May 2019, their son, London Marley entered the world.

Fatherhood

In a 2013 interview, Derrick Rose, who has just become a father, opened up an emotional side of his childhood. It was enough to prove that his kids have a lucky future ahead. Rose, speaking of his childhood said, “Growing up without my dad being around, it’s definitely going to help me to raise him. If I just do everything the opposite of what my dad did, I think that will make things pretty easy.” 

Even though this statement is 11 years old, it still has the depth for another 50 years to come. Moreover, a recent picture from Rose’s family will prove that he has been true to his words. In April 2024, a family picture of Rose went viral where he posed with his 3 kids along with Anderson and his ex-girlfriend Reese, on the occasion of PJ’s first day as a fifth grader. Even though it irked polarizing opinions, it showed that Rose wasn’t worried about the external noise.

The Marriage

Rose and Anderson decided to tie the knot seven years after they started hanging out in 2021. Before that, the couple has already become parents of two children. Nevertheless, Rose couldn’t have picked a better spot to propose to Anderson. The couple had a romantic dinner in the middle of the Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks‘ home court.

Rose took to his IG handle and wrote, “I didn’t know how you were going to perceive me. But this entire time I was hoping that you would believe me. Believe the words that I will have your back and love u forever.” On the other hand, Anderson, who wasn’t aware of the situation, wrote, “going to a Knicks team party last night,” but it “turns out it was my party!!!!,” on her IG

Following the heartwarming moment, Anderson became a regular at Rose’s games. Since the start of their relationship, the former MVP has hopped on different teams and still managed to keep his off-court life intact. On September 2023, the couple finally got hitched at The Beverly Hills Hotel in California where the place was decorated with thousands of white roses. Since then, the couple have had a wholesome relationship, which fans often get a sight of via Anderson’s IG.

Nevertheless, on the professional front, Derrick Rose continues to have a tough time. Days ahead of the 2024-25 training camp, the Memphis Grizzlies have waived the star’s contract and turned him into a free agent.
