As the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft has come to an end, teams will be looking to engage again in Madison Square Garden. Out of all the second-round prospects, one of the top players to look out for is Cam Christie. The Golden Gopher is Lakers’ Max Christie‘s younger brother. Projected at 40th pick in the second round, Cam is one of the reliable shooting assets front offices can look to introduce. The soon-to-be 19-year-old had a great freshman year after which he declared for the Draft.

Growing up in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Cam attended Rolling Meadows High School where he started his basketball journey. By the end of his senior year, Cam had multiple offers at his disposal, including USC, Michigan State, and others. However, he committed to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, which turned out to be a wise decision as he was given heavy playing time for a freshman. Christie averaged 30 minutes per game and was part of the Big-Ten Conference All-Freshman team, which summarizes his first collegiate season.

Christie averaged 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting over 39% from deep. The numbers are quite solid for his position in the Draft. Now considering his potential in terms of a responsible shooting guard, the Lakers can look to come up early in the second round. However, that wouldn’t be a possibility as the Lakers have their pick locked in at 55, targeting Bronny James.

Cam is still a teen and has a lot of potential. At just 18, Christie can recognize plays, make his shots, and is a hustler on the defensive end. As seen from his performance as a freshman, the Gopher is a fearless shooter. He is quite confident with his pull-up jump shots, draining most of his shots from deep. But how can he improve?

What can teams expect from Cam Christie?

For starters, Cam will be put to the test in the NBA pace. To put it into perspective, Christie would go on to be a phenomenal player at the collegiate level. However, his potential is yet to be tested on the NBA hardwood. Emphatically, teams looking for a future asset with consistent shooting, on-ball defense, and transition scoring can make a move for the teen during the Draft. However, the Blazers and the Grizzlies seem likely to draft Cam, putting him alongside players like Scoot Henderson or Ja Morant.

There is still a lot of room for improvement, but the youngster is headed in the right direction. The projected 40th pick might get his name early on the draft board. However, it all depends on how teams react to prospects like Justin Edwards, Johnny Furphy, Kyle Filipowski, and others in the second round. It will be interesting to see Cam’s name on the big stage, for a player with unlimited potential.
