Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves suffered a 117-104 defeat against the Atlanta Hawks in Monday’s NBA action. However, the night held a major significance for Edwards who had a special someone watching him from the sidelines. The Timberwolves star was left in awe as he was finishing his pregame warmup with his usual half-court shots. It was then he got a word from his cameraman and content creator Dontre’ McCain to look behind him.

Edwards was in for a huge surprise as he glanced toward the opposite end, to his surprise he saw his grandfather Ben Edwards watching him. After taking a few more shots the Minnesota guard could not further contain his excitement and ran toward his grandfather with an ear-to-ear smile on his face. Furthermore, what made the occasion more special was the fact that this was the first time Ben was in attendance for his grandson’s game. “This is my first NBA game with my granddad,” said Edwards.

He further added, “Sad I ain’t get the W for him, but I’m just happy he was here. My heart was warm when I seen him. That was great.” Edwards reflected on the loss but was happy to see his grandfather watching him up close. Ben who is 82 still lives in the very house where Anthony Edwards spent his childhood alongside his grandmother Shirley, mother Yvette, and his three siblings.

After watching his grandson hoop Ben said, “Hey man, it’s about time, I’m 82, I’ll be 83 in February. I have to go see him at least once.” Edwards’ former coach Dana Watkins played a huge part in getting Ben to attend the game as he doesn’t go out much and prefers to relax inside his home. Watkins spent the last several days making arrangements to make this moment happen which did happen this Monday.
