The Milwaukee Bucks used its 23rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and chose youthfulness over collegiate experience, snubbing all the eligible-experienced NCAA players. They picked up 19-year-old guard AJ Johnson (Akeem Jamaal Johnson). The 6-foot-5 guard impressed Milwaukee’s GM Jon Horst, who clarified their intention was to sign him and keep him on the roster for the 2025 season.
It is still very early to make any statement about the Milwaukee rookie as he settles into the NBA. Furthermore, AJ Johnson has been dabbling between the G-League and the NBA, so far, to get as much playing time as possible. Well, as young players like Johnson enter the league, a lot of eyes are on them, and people want to know about their game and off-court life! Especially, their dating life, so let’s see if the Bucks rookie has a special someone.

Well, sorry to disappoint all of you, but AJ Johnson, the Milwaukee Bucks rookie, is reportedly single. A huge factor for this could be his focus and dedication to basketball. Johnson entered the league as a 19-year-old with a long road ahead of him and he’ll need to work extra hard to reach the levels projected for him by General Manager, Jon Horst and Head Coach, Doc Rivers.
Currently, on a 4-year $14.6 million deal, it is easy to get carried away with the fame that comes after entering the NBA, but that’s not the case for young AJ who keeps his life pretty low-key and is solely focused on improving himself. He is also not frequently active on social media nor has he been spotted with someone, so it’s safe to assume that Johnson, at the moment, is only committed to the hoop!

AJ Johnson’s unique and unconventional journey to the NBA
Johnson, who hails from Fresno, California, was initially going to play for rapper Ye’s (formerly known as Kanye West) Donda Academy in high school, but when the school closed, he finished his prep career at Southern California Academy. Later on, unlike many other top prospects graduating from high school, the young gun snubbed USA’s traditional college basketball circuit and instead opted to play professionally in the Australian National Basketball League for the Illawarra Hawks!
Notably, the 4-star recruit by 247Sports, participated in the Chris Paul Elite Guard Camp in 2022 and the Iverson Classic in 2023. He had initially committed to play for the Texas Longhorns in November 2022, but by April 2023 he had already booked his overseas ticket. “I loved my time in Australia,” AJ Johnson told ESPN, crediting his maiden season there to help shape his journey to the NBA.

The Bucks rookie added, “Playing with professionals at an early age and just picking their brains, seeing what they do to be great professionals – that was really good for my development on and off the court.” Although Johnson just played 26 games, managing to score 2.6 points per game, the experience of playing with the pros was something special for him.
Well, this, plus his great performance in the 2024 NBA Draft Combine, was enough to impress the Bucks’ management to make a move for the youngster, who seems to be a great and unique pick for Milwaukee’s hoop future. This was also a solid step taken by the team to look for long-time prospects, as Johnson will provide the team with a boost of youth and hunger.
