

Within a few hours, we will begin with the NBA All-Stars and there’s one hooper that we can’t stop talking about. No, it’s not LeBron James or Stephen Curry, rather it’s Jaren Jackson Jr. As he makes his second appearance in the All-Stars we need to take a look at the people who helped him reach here, his family.

Who are Jaren Jackson Jr.’s parents? Are they involved in basketball?
Jaren Jackson Jr. was born into a family deeply rooted in basketball. His parents, Jaren Jackson Sr. and Terri Carmichael Jackson, provided the foundation for his career. Growing up in a household where basketball was always present, he was exposed to the sport from an early age. And to answer the second question: if they are involved in basketball? Then, the answer to it is “yes”. His father had a notable career in the NBA because of which he played a significant role in his son’s development.
His college basketball career at Georgetown University was a famous one where his reputation as a strong shooting guard. But, his career in the NBA wasn’t possible initially as he went undrafted in the 1989 NBA draft. Still, his heart never left hoops, then he spent several years playing for minor league teams, eventually earning an opportunity with the Washington Bullets in 1996. His biggest success came in 1999.
As the San Antonio Spurs became the Champions, it was his biggest dream come true. However, as years passed by, Jackson Sr. worked as an assistant coach for the Incarnate Word Cardinals men’s basketball team. We would say this was one of his best decisions to pass on his legendary experience to a new generation of hoopers.
However, Jaren Jr. has always looked up to his father. In a heartfelt reflection, he shared, “Every kid who plays ball eventually gets asked to name their favorite player. For me, it was my dad.” The close bond between them is a prove of how the father-son duo is close to each other in every way possible. But, his mother was not behind either.

His mother, Terri Carmichael Jackson, also played a big role in his upbringing. She is involved in sports! She is an accomplished lawyer and a powerful advocate for women in sports. As of recent reports, she now serves as the Executive Director of the Women’s Basketball Players Association (WNBPA). And, her main job is to improve the conditions for women athletes. Her dedication to empowering women, both in sports and beyond, is something that her son has always admired. But, her journey to the world of hoops began way before.
At Georgetown University she studied law, her father, LeRoy Carmichael, was a lawyer, and she too felt drawn to that path. After completing her studies, she began working in law, even starting a nonprofit called Black on the Block. Later, her career took her at Tulane University where he worked as a teacher and then worked at a law firm in Louisiana. Then came a pivotal change in her career, advocating for WNBA players, especially when she stood against fines imposed on players who supported the Black Lives Matter movement. And, that’s how her journey in hoops began, which is still strong. Now, we are sure that her determination to fight for fairness and equality would leave a lasting impact on her kids.
Throughout Jaren Jr.’s life, his parents never pressured him to play basketball. Instead, they encouraged him to follow his passions. Over time, the hooper has discovered his love for the game, which by far is going strong, as it has reached the NBA All-Star. Well, as we know all thanks to his parents’ support has been unwavering, but they always emphasized the importance of pursuing personal interests.
