Now, was his father a basketball player? Absolutely. Eric Mobley was not only a former professional basketball player but also a dedicated coach. Before joining the University of Southern California (USC) as an assistant men’s basketball coach, he spent eight years coaching various AAU teams.
His basketball journey began in college at California State Polytechnic University and the University of Portland. But his career wasn’t confined to the United States—he also played professionally in China, Indonesia, Mexico, and Portugal. Despite his impressive career, Eric’s most important role was being a father and mentor to his sons.
Who is Evan Mobley’s mother Nicol?
Evan’s mother, Nicol Mobley, was the emotional backbone of the family. A dedicated elementary school teacher, she always made time for her children, instilling in them the values of hard work, humility, and kindness. Even during Evan’s rise in basketball, she remained a constant source of support. Beyond raising her own children, Nicol and Eric extended their love to foster kids, making compassion a way of life for the Mobley household.

The values Evan’s parents instilled in him came full circle when he decided to give back to the community. In December 2024, he hosted a holiday shopping spree for local foster families in Cleveland, a gesture that his parents couldn’t have been prouder of.

The event, organized in collaboration with Fostering Hope and the National Youth Advocate Program, provided each family with $150 to shop for toys, clothes, and essentials at Target. As the evening unfolded, Evan personally walked alongside foster children, helping them pick out gifts. It wasn’t just about the presents—it was about making these kids feel valued.
“I just want them to have fun and enjoy this time. Not everyone gets a chance like this,” Evan said as he guided a young boy through the store.

Eric and Nicol beamed with pride as they watched their son engage with the community. “We’re excited to share our life. We were foster parents at one time, and we had kids with needs. Now, we get to celebrate, have fun, and give back,” Eric reflected. Nicol echoed his sentiments, saying, “It’s not just about basketball for Evan; it’s about being a great human.”
The night was filled with joy, laughter, and holiday spirit, thanks to Evan’s generosity. But he didn’t stop there. To recognize the dedication of foster parents, he also surprised them with $100 gift cards—a thoughtful gesture that left many in awe.
“This is my first personal event, so I really wanted to do it big and give back to the families here,” Evan explained.
This event wasn’t just a charitable moment—it was a reflection of the values Eric and Nicol had instilled in him from a young age. To the Mobleys, success was never just about individual achievements; it was about using their platform to make a difference.
