“My family’s always told me the work is going to pay off, you just got to put the work in. It’s stuck with me all of my life.” For Toronto Raptors point guard Davion Mitchell, his family is made up of people who were an occasional source of motivation as he looked to build a career in the NBA. From the Liberty County High School to the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, one source of support has stood by the hooper’s side throughout. The parents have been the ones to whom Mitchell has run during his big moments, as he revealed back in December 2021 that he immediately told his mom after learning that he would be starting in a matchup.
Despite the strong presence that his parents have in Davion Mitchell’s life, fans of the Raptors may not know much about them. If that is the case, then let us go ahead and enlighten ourselves about them.

Davion Mitchell was born back in 1998 to Lakisha and Earl Legette. Both of Davion’s parents are from Hinesville, Georgia, which makes them American nationals. Unfortunately, there is no information provided regarding their ethnic background. Davion Mitchell was reportedly close to his grandmother.
Not much information is known about Lakisha Mitchell’s early life. However, she was born on June 13, 1977, and reportedly originates from Texarkana, Arkansas. Lakisha graduated back in 1995 from the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Georgia. If a report by the Baylor Bears is to be believed, then both she and Earl Legette are HLKS majors.
Back in late July 2023, Davion Mitchell took to Instagram to highlight the tattoos that cover his body. On his right shoulder, the NBA player had gotten his mother’s face tattooed, with “2:16” written at the bottom. This was to represent the fact that both Davion, and his mother, were born at exactly 2:16. Plus, Davion revealed that he found it quite interesting that he was selected 9 overall during the draft. After all, 2+1+6= 9!

Georgia is from where the 26-year-old originates. Despite this, he chose to take his talents to Auburn University after receiving a full scholarship. Fortunately, his mother endorsed the decision. According to a 2016 report by Coastal Courier, Lakisha had gone on to state, “It’s a blessing, really. He has a full scholarship and is going to a school that he loves with coaches that he loves.”
As for Earl Legette, neither the man himself nor Davion Mitchell have been too open about him. However, both Earl and Lakisha were present when the Sacramento Kings selected their son as the NBA draft pick. As he was being interviewed on Draft Night, Lakisha sat beside her son while Earl stood behind him. Along with thanking “the man above,” Davion also thanked his family before extending the wishes to his friends and girlfriend. When the focus came upon her, Lakisha laid out some expectations as her son began his NBA journey.

“Just continue to prove (to) everyone that he worked hard, and hopefully it pays off in the long run,” said Mama Mitchell. When asked how she felt when looking at her son and his big night, she stated, “Nervous, but just glad his dreams came true.”
Does Davion Mitchell have siblings?
As of now, there are no official sources that confirm whether Davion Mitchell has a brother or a sister. Given that Davion Mitchell had given his NBA draft day interview alone alongside his parents, there is nothing to confirm that the Toronto Raptors player has a sibling.

From endorsing the move to Auburn University to staying beside him during his Draft Night, the support of Davion Mitchell’s parents is what may have influenced him to reach this stage. While there is a very low chance for the Toronto Raptors to make the playoffs, given their current 8-30 record, the player and his team could maybe turn things around next season. After all, the next target for Mitchell would probably be the Larry O’Brien trophy.
