Nothing is permanent! Last night, Mike Brown poured his heart out in the post-game presser after the Sacramento Kings suffered an embarrassing loss against the Detroit Pistons. Not to forget that it wasn’t Mike Brown’s first post-game presser meltdown this season. Amid the Kings’ underwhelming performances, he has lamented several times in front of the reporters. Unfortunately, last night’s presser turned into his last post-game interaction, as the Kings sacked him.

While Brown has yet to release a statement, several NBA coaches have already expressed support for the 54-year-old. First, the Denver Nuggets coach, who had already experienced a similar situation, made a bold statement. Before taking over the Mile-High City’s coaching job in 2015, Malone had a brief stint head coaching the Kings for the 2013-14 season.

Speaking of Brown’s situation, Malone said“At first I was really shocked and surprised, and then I caught myself and said, Why am I shocked and surprised?’ because as an NBA head coach, ultimately you’re going to get the blame… And two, who he works for. So, I’m not surprised that Mike Brown got fired, because I got fired by the same person.” Notably, in the 2013-24 season, the Kings finished as the 13th seed with a poor 28-54 record.

Nevertheless, moving on to other coaches, the Brooklyn Nets‘ coach, Jordi Fernandez, stood up for Brown. Ahead of the Nets’ game against the Spurs, the reporters asked Fernandez about Brown’s situation. Notably, Fernandez served as an associate coach alongside Brown before his Nets’ stint. He said, “He’s just very good at what he does. In my opinion, one of the best. I would not be here without him. Obviously, it’s really sad news and I don’t like it… A year and a half ago he’s Coach of the Year and now this situation happens.”

Following that, Indiana Pacers‘ coach Rick Carlisle ahead of his Celtics challenge addressed the issue and said, “The firing of Mike Brown today was just shocking to me… I view him as one of the standard bearers for integrity for our profession, and I’m just absolutely shocked that decision was made.” Moreover, he believed that Brown would turn it around. Currently, the Kings appointed Doug Christie as the interim coach to take care of the business.

How did the Kings inform Mike Brown about the sacking?

Honestly, it was one of the brutal ways to fire someone. We all know that the NBA is a happening place and the players and coaches have to rush between their hotels and airports before getting ready for the next game. After the loss against the Pistons at home, Mike Brown had a flight to catch to go to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers on Saturday this morning.

Michael Malone, who revealed his version of the story, said that Mike wasn’t informed till the last moment. During the Nuggets pre-game presser, Malone added, “They have practice this morning, he does his post-(practice) media, and he’s in his car going to the airport to fly to L. A. and they call him on the phone. No class. No ba–s. That’s what I’ll say about that.”

It’s tough to hear someone getting sacked over a phone call who was rushing to catch a flight for the next game. Being a head coach can be a tough job. It’s unfortunate for Brown, who had ultimately brought hope to the Sac Town with his efforts. What do you make of the whole drama? Let us know in the comments.
