The Boston Celtics is one of the NBA’s most legendary organizations, with a history of success and unrivaled accomplishments. Walter Brown founded the Celtics in 1946?and rapidly became a member of the Basketball Association of America (BAA), prior to the NBA, when the league was formed in 1949.

The squad struggled in its early years, with losing records in each of its first four seasons. The turning moment, however, occurred in 1950, when the famous Red Auerbach took over as head coach. This was the start of a dynasty that would alter the sport.

They had a roster that included Hall of Famers such as Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Tom Heinsohn, and others. Due to that, they went on to win an unprecedented eight consecutive NBA championships between 1958-59 and 1965-66. This is an accomplishment unmatched by the four major American team sports. Among their many successes, their undefeated record in season openers stands out. The Celtics have set a level of excellence that few are capable of matching with a 47-30 record in season openers.

The San Antonio Spurs have established themselves as the uncontested kings of NBA opening-day success in recent years. They had an amazing 85% victory rate from the 2002-2003 season until the 2022-2023 season. However, a 129-102 loss to the Charlotte Hornets last season ended their record six-year opening-day victory run. The Spurs’ domination on opening day reflects their consistency and tenacity. Despite the odd poor start, they have regularly proved their ability to start each season strong.
