Kyle Filipowski has gotten the fans buzzing so far in his brief Utah Jazz career. How was he the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 Draft? Standing at 7 feet with a 250lb physique fitting of a big man in today’s NBA, you’d think someone would’ve scooped him up earlier in the draft. Nevertheless, other teams’ loss is Utah’s gain, it seems.
He became the only rookie apart from Lamar Odom to record 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting at 100% from at least 4 three-point attempts. Clearly, the kid’s got something special. But naturally, you may have some questions about where he’s from, his roots, and the like. That’s what we’ll be looking at today.

Following a brief high school stint at Minisink Valley, he moved to the Fordham Prep School in the Bronx. He then reclassified and transferred to Wilabraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts. Unfortunately, this move would prove to be a serious mistake on his part. As a fifth-year player, he was ineligible to play in the 2022 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game.. What a disappointing way to cap off his high school career. Even so, Flip was one of the top players in his class. And a five-star recruit according to several recruiters like ESPN. So naturally, there were a lot of suitors for his services when it was time to play college ball.
Which college did Kyle Filipowski attend?
On July 29, 2021, Kyle committed to play college basketball at Duke University. It wasn’t until some time later that Flip burst onto the college basketball scene. After recording a double-double with 28 points and 15 rebounds against Pittsburgh, he’d carry this momentum into the ACC Tournament, where he was awarded MVP after another double-double against Virginia to claim the championship for Duke.

What’s your perspective on:
Did other NBA teams miss out big time by letting Kyle Filipowski slip to the 32nd pick?
Have an interesting take?
It would appear that being a projected first-round pick in the 2023 Draft wasn’t enough for Flip, who chose to return for his sophomore season. How many players have you seen doing something like this?
Kyle probably likes playing in the cold since he put up two double-doubles in December and January. Once his second season with the Blue Devils was over, Kyle declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. He chose to forgo his remaining college eligibility this time. And you already know what followed.

But you may still be curious about the people who raised Kyle to become a successful college baller and now an NBA star. So, let’s get to that next.
What is Kyle Filipowski’s parents’ nationality?
Kyle’s parents, David Filipowski and Rebecca Hagerdon, despite having names that sound European in origin, hail from the United States of America. They’re both hard-working, red-blooded Americans who did their best to support their son’s dream of becoming an NBA player.

And it makes sense that they would. David and Rebecca were both athletes during their time at Warwick Valley Secondary School in Orange County. Although, we’d argue their son has outdone them already in this regard.
All in all, Kyle Filipowski is living the dream now in his rookie season with the Utah Jazz. And even though minutes are a little scarce now, he has impressed enough to gain more favor from Will Hardy in the years to come. And who knows, maybe he’ll be the one leading the Utah Jazz to their first-ever NBA championship later down the line.
