Chicago Bulls‘ rising superstar Coby White has been basking in the NBA world’s attention for quite some time now. The 24-year-old, who had a silent four seasons, staged a breakout season and left everyone scratching their heads. First of all, his actual name is Alec Jacoby White, and he was born on February 16, 2000. Before entering the Bulls’ franchise, White already had a special connection with the legend, Michael Jordan.

Hailing from Goldsboro, NC, White went to the University of North Carolina, the same college that introduced MJ to the NBA world. Apart from playing for the same college, White had another coincidental connection with Air Jordan. He became the first player from UNC to get drafted in the first round since Jordan. Ironically, fans have already drawn a parallel between the two athletes, comparing their shot-making and agility on the court.

The Bulls selected Coby White as the 7th pick in the 2019 draft. The team handed over a four-year contract worth $24 million to the star. In the first four seasons, he averaged 12.6 points, mostly playing off the bench. Following the 2021–22 season, the Bulls extended his contract for another 3 years for $36 million, with an annual salary of $12 million per year. Currently, the 24-year-old’s net worth is estimated at around $15 million. The numbers can grow multi-fold with the star’s improving career.

On the personal front, White seemed to have kept it secret. Currently, he is in a romantic relationship with Danyelle Williams, a Northwestern volleyball player. Notably, Williams’ family also has a sports background, just like Coby. Williams’ father, Aaron Williams, is an ex-NBA player. He played for 10 franchises in his 14-season-long career.

The White-Williams couple has kept their relationship away from media attention. She also hails from the same hometown as her boyfriend. Importantly, they both are in a discreet relationship and are not married.

What to expect from Coby White in the upcoming seasons?

Coby White has turned the tables in the 2023–24 regular season. After an underwhelming previous season, averaging 9.7 points in his 23-minute outing per game, he doubled it in the next season. The unfortunate Kris Dunn’s season-ending injury provided him with an opportunity in the starting lineup.

With an improved play time of 36.5 minutes per game, White has averaged 19.1 points in 79 games, missing only 2 games. Interestingly, the star didn’t play with the same intensity in the initial part of the season, averaging only 14 points in the first 20 games. However, after that, he turned up the heat on the court, making plays and scoring buckets tirelessly despite playing for a long time on the court.

Apart from these improvements, he showcased his inner Michael Jordan with several performances, getting the team out of mammoth deficits. For instance, he produced a 33-point game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, overcoming a 23-point deficit. Moreover, adding to his accolades, NBA expert Grant Hughes predicted him to win the Most Improved Player of the Year Award in 2024.
