Brandon Miller, a young lad in the NBA, has had a decent career rise. Like many, even he had that one-off brilliance that caught the attention of this franchise. Back to 2023. It was between the Alabama Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks. A 41-point haul to win it in OT, and the Association’s radar blipped off Miller, his career high until then. The day Brandon Miller’s career trajectory changed forever. Luck unfolded.

He got picked up in the 2023 NBA draft as the Charlotte rep’s second overall pick as their new SF. This sort of talent doesn’t come around easily, though. More so, it is down to his upbringing laced to the tip with athleticism. His childhood was a certified dub. But what did his childhood look like?

Where is Brandon Miller from? What is the Hornets star’s nationality?

Born in Nashville, he attended Cane Ridge High School in Antioch. Tennessee through and through. Son of Darrell and Yolanda Miller, he had exposure to the future faster than he could gain consciousness. An American by nationality, the youngest of the Millers’, has an African-American ethnicity.

“Growing up, my parents instilled in me a relentless work ethic and the belief that I could achieve anything if I put my mind to it. Their constant encouragement is what drives me to push past my limits on the court,” says Brandon on his parents’ impact on his career.

Born to a track runner and a basketball player, ‘lil Brandon’ was lucky to get groomed by two athletes. Darrell Miller, his father, played for the Alabama Crimson Tide colors as a tight end in his playing days under Gene Stallings. There’s a saying, “Like father, like son,” and the Miller family’s background makes them a perfect fit, only if we can modify it by adding mom in the quote. Must’ve been a fun childhood for Brandon. But how did his mother help him?

Yolanda Miller, a cancer victim, has laid the foundations of his character, both on and off the court. ‘Know who you are’, as a motto, is pretty self-explanatory. “I owe everything to my parents. My dad taught me never to give up and always work hard for what I want, while my mom showed me the importance of staying humble and focused. Their sacrifices and support are the foundation of my game every time I step on the court,” said the Hornets’ number 24. Concentration is key, and her work as a track-field athlete brought that grace to him. And it is their gene that makes him dance on the hardwood game in, game out.

Has Brandon Miller represented the US National Team?

Miller, as of early 2025, doesn’t have an official cap for the US National Basketball team. But throwback to 2024, he was selected for the USA Men’s Basketball Select Team in 2024 for the Paris Olympics. It helped him to gain experience from the greats like LeBron, and Steph Curry, to name a few. And if he manages to improve in a few years, he is well on the radar to get selected for the national team.

Unfortunately, he is out indefinitely (as of mid-February, 2025) as he underwent surgery due to a wrist injury. Besides all of this, his 2024-25 season seemed decent, with an average of 21 points and 4.9 rebounds, though the number of games played is too less to justify anything. Hope that the young lad comes out strong, only to reach greater heights. And born to a family that has been on the court, and the field, he is aware of the challenges that come along, but more than that, he will surely know how to bounce back.
