Does Jayson Tatum's $4 million mansion reflect his status as a top NBA player, or is it too much?

Jayson Tatum is next in line to adorn his head with the crown. The Celtics star had a double treat after lifting the much cherished Larry O’Brien trophy, after which he went on to sign a whopping $315 million deal. This back-to-back success not only filled his pocket but also put him on track to become the next face of the NBA. While we usually see superstar players of this caliber, bask in wealth and enjoy their bounty, well, JT is something different…

Even though a $4 million mansion is a luxury in the eyes of a common man, it definitely isn’t in the eyes of an NBA superstar. With a projected total career earnings of $469 million, which could further grow after extension, Jayson Tatum still lives in a humble abode in Newton, Massachusetts.

Notably, LeBron James is the only player to have a career earning above $400 million in the history of the league. This has undeniably moved the Celt up the reputation ladder. One may wonder the reason behind Jayson Tatum‘s decision to restrict himself to a wallet-friendly place (of course, to his standards). Well, it stemmed from a promise that he made to his mother, Brandy Cole.

Growing up as a child of a single parent, the Celts faced poverty on many levels. Speaking to Graham Bensinger in 2022, JT said he and his mother had to deal with, “the water being cut off, the lights being cut off, almost being evicted” almost regularly.

As Big Deuce grew up into an NBA player, he made a promise to his mother that he would only live off his endorsement earnings and save his Celtics paycheck. So up until 2019, JT hadn’t bought a home. It was the $4 million mansion for which the star went all out.

Jayson Tatum’s stunning $4 million ‘Gothic Revival home’

Unlike the modern flashy mansions constructed across the country, JT’s mansion roots back to the 17th century. Constructed in 1848, the star acquired the mansion following the renovations. Sitting on almost half an acre of land, this white facade has twin Gothic gables at the front, decorated with French windows at the opening. Moreover, the house has 4 bedrooms, 4 and a half bathrooms, a lot of windows, and a tall ceiling.

Something that the mansion missed was a basketball court. Despite being a hooper, Jayson Tatum forgot to take that into account. However, the Celt was quick to fix it after learning the hard way. During the pandemic, when everyone stayed indoors, JT found it difficult to stay away from the hoop. The star took the help of Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck and had a court installed in his backyard!

Despite all the other features, there is something special about the mansion’s modern kitchen, a master bedroom with a fireplace, and a spacious foyer. Let’s take a closer look at them.

The Grand Foyer

The two-story building gives a grand welcome to whoever steps in. The huge marble-floored space with a mahogany staircase at the center gives it a modern look and still retains the Gothic layer of the house. Moreover, the room is surrounded by windows illuminating natural light from all directions, giving it a pleasant, inviting glow. Following the entrance, the main living room comes with plenty of seating facilities and wooden coffee tables to match the seating’s color and texture.

A cutting-edge modern kitchen: An all-white cabinetry, offset by dark flooring!

This is one of the sought-after spaces in the entire mansion. While the high-rise ceiling covers the entire place, it gives a special touch to the heart of the mansion, the kitchen. Again, the space is also filled with windows on all sides, making it a brightly lit kitchen, along with a fire space. Truly a chef’s dream! One of the important aspects of the kitchen is the luxury Granite Waterfall Island in the middle. Apart from that, the space also carries all the state-of-the-art modern kitchen appliances to help the home chef.

The master bedroom that Jayson Tatum walks into after a thrilling game

This master bedroom is nothing but a cozy retreat. As mentioned above, the rising ceiling and multiple windows make the room bright and lively. In addition, a huge fireplace makes the room more pleasant. The cushiony bedding and the luxurious furniture elevate the room into the best bedroom one could ask for. This is something that Jayson Tatum wouldn’t resist after a relishing day on the court!

Apart from these three important aspects of the mansion, the two-storeyed building still has more exciting features like the posh patio, walk-in wardrobe, and wine cellar, catering to the Celtics superstar’s desires. As of now, this is the only space that JT owns in his 7-season-long NBA career. Considering the promise that he made to his mom, do you think he will buy a bigger mansion in the future?
