Since the early 2023 season, LeBron James has been contending with a persistent calf injury. Despite that, he has played through the majority of the games. Assuming a leadership role, he steered the Los Angeles Lakers to victory in the In Season Tournament. However, under added pressure and his lingering injury, James was unable to participate in the game against the San Antonio Spurs. For fans, his absence loomed large, as it would have marked the first-ever encounter between James and the NBA’s young prodigy.

As LeBron James sits out the Lakers’ inaugural season game against the Spurs, a burning question ignites in fans’ hearts regarding his first on-court encounter with Victor Wembanyama. James’ absence adds a heightened dramatic element to the storyline, infusing intensity to their anticipated face-off.

The Lakers are gearing up for a back-to-back series against the Spurs. Following their initial clash of the season, the two teams will meet again on December 15, with just a day’s gap between the games. Both games will occur at the Frost Bank Arena, the Spurs’ home court.

Throughout the majority of the season, the Lakers have consistently labeled LeBron James as either probable or questionable on the Lakers’ injury list. Despite that, his absence in the matchup against the Spurs marks only the second time he’s missed a game this season. Considering James’ history of navigating through games and recovery, there’s a possibility that LeBron James and Victor Wembanayama will finally face on December 15, the second leg of this back-to-back showdown.

If the highly anticipated moment for fans doesn’t materialize in the coming days, they will have to exercise patience until next year. A little over two months from now, on February 24, the Spurs will visit the Crypto.com Arena, marking the last matchup from the three-season games against the Lakers.

Despite the Lakers holding a substantial 20-point lead early in the fourth quarter, Wembanyama’s heroics kept the game closely contested. Nevertheless, the Spurs couldn’t withstand Anthony Davis’ 37 points and 10 rebounds, resulting in a 122-119 loss. Wembanyama accumulated 30 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocks in the game. Furthermore, the game also marks his first receiving 6 fouls. Notably, in the last 45 seconds on the court, Wembanyama electrified the game with 2 dunks and 2 blocks.
