Just when you thought LeBron James couldn’t make any more history, he’s proved the doubters wrong. His off-court capades have taken yet another addition. It was revealed that this month, the Akron native will be one of the few to have the privilege of being immortalized in a Barbie doll. Well– a Ken doll to be precise. With so many of y’all already planning the purchase, also imagine justifying it to your accountant.

This will be a part of Mattel’s Barbie Signature Kenbassadors collection, which “celebrates influential Ken figures who are creating positive change and contributing to a better world for all.” The ‘history’ part comes in when Bron becomes the first male athlete to have this honor. Now children growing up (and some of us adults, too) can have a doll of their favorite hero.

The doll will don his signature bearded look, with a white and blue letterman jacket. The jacket has his initials ‘LJ’printed on the front, and ‘LeBron’ printed on the back in all caps with ‘Just a Kid from Akron’ scripted underneath. On the left sleeve, there’s the green and gold crown logo from his foundation and a blue and black Ohio patch. He will also be wearing a hat, with black and white houndstooth pants and blue and white Nike Air Jordans.

But that’s not all. Under the jacket, the LeBron doll will be seen wearing a t-shirt with the words ‘We Are Family’ printed on the front. This might be due to Mattel’s collaboration with the Lakers star’s LeBron James Family Foundation for the venture. It seems like the Mattel designers went all out with this look. The doll will also feature black Beats headphones, a golden watch, a green I Promise bracelet, a black cap, and a black pair of sunglasses.

Okay, that’s enough of the details. Let’s get into the main crux of the matter. Where can you buy it, and how much does it cost?

Details about LeBron James’ Kenbassadors doll

According to rumors online, the doll will go live in their store on April 23rd onwards. This wasn’t just a random date chosen. According to their website, April 23rd marks “the 45th anniversary of the Black Barbie, a milestone in representation in the toy industry.” This was to honor the first Black Barbie doll created by Mattel’s first Black designer for Barbie when she was hired by Mattel in 1976 at age 28, Kitty Black Perkins.

The Barbie Signature LeBron James Kenbassadors doll will be priced at $75. Aside from the Mattel store, it’s going to be available on Amazon as well. By doing this, he’s joining an elite group of public figures immortalized in Barbie form—celebrities like Alicia Keys, Issa Rae, and Naomi Osaka have all received the honor.
