For the sensation that LeBron James is, everything he adorns on the court speaks volumes about his brilliance. This time around, it’s his shoes doing the talking. Yes! As Team USA came out to face Brazil for their quarterfinal game, King James made sure he handled the ball with one hand and carried the torch of being the guiding light on the other. Or should we rather say feet? Looking at the lifetime contract holder’s newest exclusive drop, we can stick with the former.
LeBron already debuted his ‘USA’ Nike LeBron 22 last month. But this time, he had a message to convey through his yet-to-be-released shoes. His shoes feature handwritten tributes to his hometown, Akron, his childhood friends, and his family. From left to right, it reads, “The kid from Akron” and “The man in the Arena,” followed by some initials honoring his family and friends from Ohio. FAB 5 can be also seen written on the shoe, a tribute to friends from St. Vincent-St. Mary.
The group consisted of LeBron James, Dru Joyce III, Romeo Travis, Willie McGee, and Brandon Weems. All of them won the 2003 State Championship together in Ohio. “We never leaned on nobody. We only leaned on each other for emotional help, but we never leaned on each other for anything that didn’t have any substance,” the 4-time NBA champion told Cleveland.com in 2016. Even after all those years, the group holds a special place in his life and the bond will probably last a lifetime.

Since LeBron James signed the lucrative deal with Nike, the brand has released a signature shoe for the 39-year-old every year (count stands at 22). In 2015 the King signed an estimated $30 million/yr lifelong endorsement deal that could amount to more than a billion, so expect many more shoes to come in the distinguished line. But when will this one be released? As per reports, the shoe is expected to hit the official flagship showrooms later this year, during the holidays. The shoes are designed in collaboration with Monopoly, the evergreen board game.
The graphic on the upper side of the shoe is inspired by the game’s currency and offset by a silver underlay at the midfoot and heel counter. The outsole design also separates the heel. In case you’re wondering about the cost of a pair, it is estimated to be around $180-190 and grade school sizes will cost $140. Obviously, there shouldn’t be any doubt about the performance of the shoe as LeBron James has been dropping masterclasses one after another since unveiling the pair during Team USA’s training camp.
