The Indiana Pacers are set to face the Milwaukee Bucks tonight. Both teams have had ups and downs this regular season and have been on their respective journeys for the top spot. The Bucks struggled initially with their superstar addition, Damian Lillard. However, they have found their stride now as they are the second seed in the east.
On the other hand, the Pacers were the breakout team this season. This is due to the all-star level performance of Tyrese Haliburton, who has been dropping 20 assist double-doubles like it is nothing. Before their match, Indiana will debut a unique new jersey. Let’s find out all about it!

Indiana Pacers’ new jersey features a QR Code
The Pacers’ new ad patch jersey sponsor is a company called Spokenote. The company will help Indiana become the first team in professional sports to have a “smart” jersey by employing an advertisement in the form of a QR Code. This will enable the sponsor to deliver a message live in the game.
The company describes itself as a “digital sticky note” providing users with a straightforward method to share videos through the QR Code on a sticker, suitable for diverse applications like thank-you notes or hanging tags on jerseys, without the need for any additional applications. The CEO of Spokenote John Wechsler is a local and lifelong Pacers fan. “Any place there’s a memory, we can link to physical objects,’’ John said. He further added, “We’re in the memory space and that is a really, really big area.”
Despite the quirky new jersey idea, it can spew a myriad of complications.

What complications may arise from the “smart” jersey?
The possible opportunities and conflicts are both extensive and intricate at the same time. The NBA, being highly conscious of its intellectual property rights, recognizes the unprecedented nature of this sports marketing asset. There’s a potential for setting a precedent within the league and the entire sports industry.
It raises questions about informing a sponsor that they can’t use a QR Code on their venue signage when another sponsor is doing so. Additionally, there’s a consideration of whether the player association would view a QR Code on every uniform as an implied endorsement by its members, expecting compensation.
