Jontay Porter, the two-way contract player for the Raptors, finds himself in a nail-biting situation right about now. The forward is under investigation by the NBA for betting irregularities in the past two games. The younger brother of the Denver Nuggets star, Michael Porter Jr., Jontay, is specifically being inspected for his role in prop betting, if any.

Considering the league has strict rules regarding players or any employee of the NBA not engaging in any kind of betting on league events, Porter’s certain actions deemed the investigation necessary. In the latest updates, ESPN’s Wojnarowski shared that the 24-year-old is out of Toronto’s starting lineup.

He shared the details on his Instagram. “Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter is out of the lineup and a subject of an NBA investigation into irregularities on prop betting involving him, sources tell David Purdum, @windhorstespn and me.”

Prop betting has been a major issue even at the collegiate level. Given how it can affect the game and the focus of the players, the league has explicit rules on the results of such involvement. For those unaware, prop betting includes placing bets on a specific outcome in a game. As such, there are about a hundred scenarios of how it can play out. To give an example, let’s take the case of Jontay himself. During the game against the Clippers on January 26, his stat line for the night was set at 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and made triples at 0.5.

Unfortunately for him, the interest of betters was high in the under. And that night saw Jontay Porter leave after playing for just four minutes. He had 0 points, three rebounds, one assist, and 0 threes, automatically translating to a hefty win for all the under betters.

After a not-so-great time with Memphis, Jontay found greater success in the G League. With Detroit’s Motor City Cruise, he averaged 16.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 10 games. And now, with the Raptors, Porter is averging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 26 games. Although, his last six games does show pretty neat improvement. Jontay Porter has an average of 5.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 42.9% from the field.
