San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan considers himself a “citizen of the world.” You might think, why is that? Well, his talent has taken him through continents and several countries. From La Porte, Indiana, to Waco, Texas, to Ulm, Germany, to Southampton, England, and Poland. If you’ve been around as much as Sochan has, you have the right to be called a ”citizen of the world.”

This unique upbringing has made Jeremy Sochan the person he is today in the NBA. The Spurs star grew up not only idolizing players such as Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook. But, he also idolized Sergio Llull, who starred for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team. He’s learned different philosophies from different coaches and is implementing all of this in San Antonio. Let’s get to know more about the 21-year-old.

Where is Jeremy Sochan from? What is the Spurs star’s nationality?

Born to parents Aneta Sochan and Ryan Williams in Guymon, Oklahoma, Jeremy was a basketball fan long before he began hooping. Jeremy’s mother, Aneta, hails from Poland with a white ethnic background, whereas his father was an American citizen with roots in the USA, Making Jeremy of mixed ethnicity. Basketball is in his blood, as both his mother and father are former players.

Aneta played for Polina Warshaw, one of the oldest basketball clubs in Poland. On the other hand, his late father, Ryan Williams, suited up for Bristol Flyers in the United Kingdom before unfortunately passing away in 2017 because of a car accident.

Then entered his stepfather, Wictor Lipecki, into his life, who was British. Furthermore, as a kid, Jeremy went on to spend the majority of his childhood in the UK and took his first steps toward basketball in Milton Keynes.

He then moved to Southampton, where he suited up for the Solent Kestrels and Itchen College. Once it became clear that he was special, Sochan moved to Indiana, where played at Lu Lumiere School. It was time to pick a college and the forward selected Baylor. After playing just a single season at Baylor, though, he declared for the 2022 NBA Draft and was picked 9th overall by the Spurs!

Jeremy Sochan being raised in the UK has represented England at the junior level. Through his mother’s ties, he represented Poland. As part of the Polish U16 squad. Sochan led his team to the title at the 2019 FIBA U16 European Championship Division B in Montenegro, also winning the MVP title! Since then, Sochan has committed to his Polish roots and has been an active member of the national team.

In his debut game, for the senior team, he became the youngest ever player to represent Poland. He clocked 25+ mins against Romania at the EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers, scoring 18 points, including an impressive 4-point play at the end and a deciding block. The 21-year-old continues his journey with Poland and the NBA, looking to become one of the best players of this generation.
