Jalen Brunson is one of the most electrifying players on the New York Knicks roster. Since his arrival, Brunson has lit up the Big Apple, averaging 20+ points in every season he’s been at the Knicks. And he shows no sign of slowing down in his third season in 2024/25 with 26.1 points per game.

But how have the Knicks compensated Brunson so far? If you’re someone who’s got this question in mind, then you’ve come to the right place. So let’s see what Jalen Brunson’s NY Knicks contract looks like.

What is Jalen Brunson’s contract with the New York Knicks? Did he take a pay cut?

In July 2024, Jalen Brunson signed a 4-year, $156 million deal with the New York Knicks. Brunson was eligible to sign a 5-year, $269 million deal at the end of the 2024/25 season. However, he chose to sign the aforementioned contract to help the Knicks “compete for a title in the coming years.” In doing so, he helped the Knicks gain some salary cap flexibility for the future by sacrificing over $113 million in salary. What a noble gesture!

This extension will pay Brunson $34.9 million in the first year, and $37.7 million in the following year. The final year guarantees him a salary of $40.5 million. Now you may wonder why we called the third year on a four-year deal as the final year. Well, that’s because there’s a player option for the 2028-29 season. If he doesn’t opt out of his contract, he will make $43.3 million that season. However, this deal will only kick in from the 2025/26 season.

So, for this season, Jalen will receive the payout from the contract he first signed upon joining the Knicks. That deal guarantees him an average annual salary of $24,960,001 for the 2024/25 season. However, Brunson will soon be able to reap the benefits of his new contract. Namely, an average annual salary of $39 million.
