This extension will pay Brunson $34.9 million in the first year, and $37.7 million in the following year. The final year guarantees him a salary of $40.5 million. If he doesn’t opt out of his contract, he will make $43.3 million that season. However, this deal will only kick in from the 2025/26 season.

So, for this season, Jalen will receive the payout from the contract he first signed upon joining the Knicks. That deal guarantees him an average annual salary of $24,960,001 for the 2024/25 season. However, Brunson will soon be able to reap the benefits of his new contract. Namely, an average annual salary of $39 million.
