The Los Angeles Lakers shook up the NBA trade market after they concluded their deal with the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers acquired the services of Dorian Finney-Smith as a part of this trade. A solid 2-way player of DFS’ profile seems to be a perfect addition to the Lakers’ paper-thin roster. But that’s to be expected. He and Lakers head coach JJ Reddick were teammates after all!
It was barely two years ago that Finney-Smith had extended his contract at the Dallas Mavericks. He had penned a 4-year contract extension that would net him a handsome $55.5 million. However, less than a year into his new contract, he was traded to the Nets. Thus ending his stint with the Mavs, quashing Dallas fans’ hopes of him being a key figure in their squad.
Now, on the Lakers’ payroll for the next two years, Dorian is set to receive $14.9 million for his services this season. He also has a $15.3 million player option for the final year of his contract. But that makes you wonder, how much is Dorian Finney-Smith worth?

What is Dorian Finney-Smith’s net worth?
As it stands, there are no clear reports regarding what Dorian Finney-Smith’s net worth is. Although we have a pretty clear idea of how much the hoopster has earned through his career in the NBA. Despite going undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, DFS signed with the Dallas Mavericks to a 3-year deal. He was paid an average salary of $1,133,678, receiving a total upwards of $3.4 million.
Re-signing as a free agent, he agreed to another 3-year contract in 2019. However, this one’s value was much higher than the last at $12 million. Meaning, he would make around $4 million a year. Which brings us to the aforementioned contract extension 2 years ago.
Now, in the third year of this deal, Dorian Finney-Smith has already made around $17.8 million from it. This number is set to shoot up to a whopping $26.4 million, with him being set to earn $8,681,400 for the 2024/25 season. All in all, Dorian Finney-Smith has made approximately $57 million in his professional career as a hoopster. About his endorsement deals off the court, Dorian has been seen promoting smaller brands in the tech and refreshment space, but nothing ground-breaking as yet. But there’s definitely potential!
Dorian has come a long way, from being an undrafted rookie to now sharing the court with the ‘King’ LeBron James. Although it seems as though the Lakers acquiring Finney-Smith didn’t sit well with some.

The deal between the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers ruffled a few feathers as it went down. It seems that the Lakers weren’t the only ones pursuing Doe-Doe’s signature. And the Nets choosing to allow the Lakers to bring him in has caused some tension between them and another team in the West. Per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Memphis Grizzlies were the other side that was on the brink of closing a deal for Dorian.
The Grizzlies believed that they had offered a better deal in exchange for Finney-Smith. Which is why they’re reportedly angry at the Lakers being the ones to get him instead. The Nets would’ve received Luke Kennard, John Konchar, and a top-17 protected 2025 first-draft pick to part with Dorian. The Nets apparently liked what the Lakers had offered more, though!
Honestly, it does not take incredible insight to see that the Lakers simply offered a better deal. None of the players offered by the Grizzlies are of the caliber of D’Angelo Russell. Yes, he’s been a bit iffy this season. But he still used to be a starter in LA until quite recently. Furthermore, the Nets got three draft picks back along with the aforementioned All-Star, D’Lo.

So, the Lakers got a valuable addition in Dorian Finney-Smith to bolster their claim to the title. And there’s no doubt that DFS’ former teammate, JJ Reddick was instrumental in the Lakers’ pursuit of DFS. With a chip on his shoulder, always willing to step into the fire, the 31-year-old forward may be the type of player JJ needs to revitalize the Lakers squad!
