In 2021, tons of people lined up along the parade route while Davion Mitchell made his way to Liberty County High School. Why? Well, it was Davion Mitchell Day in Liberty County! Before the parade, Davion hadn’t returned to his city since the pandemic.
The reason for this ardent support? To fully get the reasons behind it, we must first learn about the now Miami Heat star’s roots and background before he started plying his trade in Miami. So let’s get to know him a little better.

Where is Davion Mitchell from? What’s the Miami Heat star’s nationality?
Davion Mitchell is a hometown hero from Liberty County, Georgia. Ask the people there, and they’ll tell you that he’s the pride of the community. Born and raised in Liberty County, Mitchell played high school ball at Liberty County High School. He even led his team to a state championship in 2016. No wonder they love him!
After helping Baylor win the 2021 NCAA title, Mitchell got a warm welcome back home—his first visit in a year due to the pandemic. We told you before how the city of Hinesville threw him a parade. But they didn’t stop there. The mayor gave him the key to the city and even declared April 15 as “Davion Mitchell Day.” What an honor! His high school also retired his #5 jersey, a tremendous feat for any athlete.

Mitchell didn’t forget to thank everyone who’d helped him get this far. From his coaches to his parents and his community, Davion acknowledged them all. What a down-to-earth guy he is! “Keep believing in your dreams and everything will work out,” he said, hoping to inspire the next generation.
Oh, and if you’re still wondering, yes, Davion Mitchell is an American through and through! Sadly, despite knowing this, we’re yet to find any reports confirming what religion he ascribes to or ones outlining his ethnicity and heritage.
But we can tell you all about how he became the hero of Liberty County and got a parade thrown in his honor. So let’s see what his time as a college baller was like.
What’s your perspective on:
Will Davion Mitchell's NBA success bring another parade in Liberty County? What do you think?

Which college did Davion Mitchell attend?
Davion Mitchell’s journey began at Auburn. But it was his transfer to Baylor that unlocked the beast that slumbered within. He was already an elite ball handler, but during his time at Baylor, Davion worked on other skills like his finishing and defense to truly ascend to a higher level of play.
And this hard work soon paid off after he helped the Bears to the NCAA championship in 2021. After that, he declared for the NBA Draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility. But don’t think he made this decision on a whim. No, Davion was ready for the NBA by then.

“He’s so balanced, as he can score going 100 miles an hour. Throw in his passing, and it’s nearly impossible to guard with the shooters around him and the speed that he provides,” said an NBA scout about his skills on his skills as an attacker.

But don’t think that meant Mitchell was a slouch defensively. Quite the opposite, actually. “He will harass you, and it is like a death by a thousand cuts. Everywhere you go, every turn, he’s there. I don’t know if it’s physical or mental, but it’s debilitating,” said the same scout.

At the time, his coach Scott Drew rated him as the best defender in America. “Obviously, I think he’s the best defender in the country,” said Drew. “We call him Off Night, because people tend to have off nights with him. But he’s a nightmare to bring the ball up against,” he added.
With such glowing co-signs, it’s no wonder that the Sacramento Kings picked Mitchell in the first round as the 9th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. And while Mitchell is yet to become a champion in the NBA, we think it’s only a matter of time before he achieves the same feat. But do you think they’ll throw him a parade again after he clinches an NBA ring?
