Have an interesting take?

Caleb Martin’s game reflects his heart—intense, fearless, and unyielding. From electrifying dunks to tenacious defense, he’s made his mark in the NBA as a player who leaves it all on the court. But off the court, he is a son giving back to his family. The story behind the talent is rooted in the sacrifices and values instilled by those closest to him—values that have shaped Martin into the man and player he is today, driven by family and resilience.

What is Caleb Martin’s Ethnicity? Exploring the roots of the Philadelphia 76ers star

Caleb Martin was born on September 28, 1995, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This makes his nationality American. Although he was born and raised in North Carolina, his ethnicity is biracial. He was born to an African American father (name and other details unknown) and a white Caucasian mother, Jenny Bennett. Thus, making his ethnicity a mix of African American and Caucasian.

Well, when it comes to his religion, there isn’t much public information. However, his twin brother, Cody Martin, has God” written in his Instagram bio, hinting at some level of spirituality or religious faith within the family. Still, Caleb hasn’t openly discussed his personal beliefs, choosing to keep that part of his life private.

But we do know about his siblings, older brother Raheem, and twin brother, Hornets forward, Cody Martin. Often the brothers speak about how they continue to share the bond through the NBA. Growing up, the two brothers were inseparable, constantly challenging each other on the court and supporting one another off it.

“It’d be hard,” Caleb once said. “He’s known me 24/7 basically every day of my life. The most time we’ve been apart is like a couple days for our whole entire life. It’s going to be weird when that day comes where we have to split up. It will feel really weird. That’s one reason we never split up. If you have an opportunity to play with your brother, and he’s a twin, I’d think it’d be dumb not to experience that together.”

Their relationship is far beyond just basketball. Caleb and Cody often play video games together—Call of Duty and FIFA being their go-to titles—and enjoy similar activities, from dining at the same restaurants to shopping for clothes. Caleb describes having Cody by his side as a built-in best friend on the road, making the grind of the NBA season more enjoyable and meaningful. The brothers have supported each other through every level of their basketball careers, and now in the NBA, their bond remains a constant source of strength.

Despite the pressures of professional basketball, the Martin brothers’ deep connection has made their journey all the more special. As we know these two are truly living out their dream, side by side, but what we do not know is that there’s a mother whose sacrifice proves the power of family can carry you through even the toughest challenges.

How hard was it for Caleb Martin’s mother to raise three children in a crime-infested neighborhood?

The twins grew up in Cooleemee, N.C. with a small population of fewer than 1000. Their home was just 300 square feet, with a single-wide trailer with dingy white metal siding and brown trim, from a small tiny house to the NBA, behind each step was their mother, a single parent.

Bennett became a mother as a teenager, and soon after, her parents removed her from their home. However, with nowhere to go, she found herself at home with her three boys, a house filled with roaches and ants.

In a neighborhood plagued by violence, Jenny worked tirelessly to make ends meet. She juggled three jobs, including one at Food Lion as a scan analyst. Up at 2 a.m. every day, she’d return home by 3 p.m. to feed her children. Often, she went without meals, telling her sons, “Don’t worry about me. I’m not very hungry.’’ She did this so her children could eat.

Despite her exhaustion, Bennett ensured her boys didn’t feel the absence of their father. Raising biracial children in the South, she faced intense prejudice. One morning, they woke up to find a burning cross in their yard. She was once chased by a truck, a terrifying reminder of the racial struggles they faced. Yet she never let these challenges defeat her.

She taught her children invaluable lessons—lessons that shaped their futures. She instilled in them a strong work ethic, the importance of sacrifice, and the value of perseverance. Caleb often reflects on how much he admires his mother’s strength and sacrifices.

I have a crazy, crazy amount of respect for my mom and all the stuff she’s gone through. Cody and I will reminisce about our childhood and we now notice all of the stuff she didn’t let us in on when we were little, all of the stuff we realize now. It was hard, but she made a lot of sacrifices like not eating certain nights and passing up job opportunities because she had no help at home and had to be there for us.” Caleb Martin once said.

Growing up in that tough environment, they saw things most children shouldn’t have to witness. Dr*g deals, shootings, and constant danger were daily realities. Yet their mother kept them safe, shielded them from harm, and taught them to rise above their circumstances.

Today, both her sons are two of the most talented basketball players in the country. On full-ride scholarships, they play for the Nevada Wolf Pack, a program with soaring expectations. They owe everything to their mother’s unyielding dedication. For Jenny, watching her sons succeed has made the sacrifices worth it.

But as Caleb said, “It was hard, but she made it happen.” How far can a mother’s love and sacrifice carry her children?
