“I was pouting. I was upset when I wasn’t playing. And I had a bad attitude. I went from $100 million to a f**king league minimum”. Speaking out to a group of young athletes last year, Andre Drummond highlighted the effect that not being a fully co-operative teammate had on his individual NBA standing. After all, by 2017, the player was on top of the world. Not only had he commanded a spot on the All-NBA, and All-Star Teams, he was commanding a HUGE salary. One that was probably putting the rest of his teammates’ pay to shame. However, the problems with the Detroit Pistons caused his individual downfall, providing him with the same fate that was once experience by Derrick Rose.
In light of this, let us find out more about the player’s current pay, and how it compares to his previous earnings.

According to Spotrac, Andre Drummond currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers under a 2-year, $10 million contract. Signed back in July 2024, it is set to last till the end of the 2025-26 season. After that, the player can choose to become an unrestricted free agent. Furthermore, he can also take the player option that will be available to him during the next season.
Through the current contract, Andre Drummond is reportedly making 48.8% than he was in the previous season. Despite this, as highlighted by ESPN, the 76ers Center is the 251 highest player of the ongoing NBA season. He ranks right between Utah Jazz’s Drew Eubanks ($5 million), and Oklahoma City Thunder’s Nikola Topic ($4.9 million).

As of now, there is no information on what kind of extension Andre Drummond could end up receiving upon the conclusion of his current contract. However, whenever the process begins, they will most likely take his recent contributions into consideration.
As the 76ers’ secondary Center, the team may have initially acquired Andre Drummond to serve as Joel Embiid’s backup. However, the Cameroonian’s trouble with his knee, and a sinus fracture, kept him away from the court for the majority of the ongoing season. It’s not an exaggeration. After all, out of the 27 games that the 76ers have played this season, Embiid has participated in only 8 of them! Therefore, it was Andre Drummond who primarily carried the Center responsibilities.
Ironically, with a salary of $51.4 million, Joel Embiid ties Nikola Jokic for the 2nd highest paid player of the ongoing season. Therefore, for all the troubles he has taken, Andre Drummond should at least receive good compensation.
What is Andre Drummond’s total career earnings from the NBA?
As of the 2023-24 season, Andre Drummond has made a whopping $146.79 million over the course of 12 years. All 6 contracts that he has signed have held a total value of around $157.587 million.
The NBA team drafted Andre Drummond as the 9th overall pick during the 2012 NBA Draft. The Detroit Pistons signed on the player under a 4-year, $10.659 million contract. The entire amount was placed in the guaranteed category. Furthermore, it paid him out an average of $2.66 million per year.

When the time came for an extension in 2016, the Pistons Center had an advantage. The league had earlier named him to the All-NBA Third Team that same year. This may have helped to make a further addition to the numbers of his extension deal. In July of that year, Andre Drummond signed a 5-year, $127.17 million max contract. With an average pay of $25.434 million per year, the cap hit on it ranged between $22.1 million to $28.75 million.
After Drummond’s tenure with the Detroit Pistons came to a close, he did not even remotely come close to making the same amount of money as he did earlier. After one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Center reached a buy-out deal with the franchise. He then signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. The contract presented to him was an abysmal 1-year, $794,536 deal. It covered the 21 games he played in the remaining part of the season. Things improved once he became a free agent, as he signed on under a 1-year, $2.4 million contract, with the Philadelphia 76ers, back in August 2021.

His first stint with the 76ers did not last even a full year. After all, he was soon traded to the Brooklyn Nets, and then the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls provided Drummond with a 2-year, $6.56 million deal.
Now, the player is back with the Philadelphia 76ers. Earning better than he did over the last couple of years. Unfortunately, not as better as he was making during his initial years in the NBA. If Derrick Rose’s story of going from maximum to minimum contracts showed us anything, it is that Drummond may never get back to earning what he was with the Detroit Pistons. Therefore, the player can continue to play at his best level, and hope that his contributions earn him his desired contract.
