Did that just happen? That was every boxing fan’s reaction after witnessing tonight’s highly anticipated bout between Tim Tszyu and Bakhram Murtazaliev. Well, all eyes were on the Australian star as this was supposed to be his comeback after he suffered his career’s first loss back in March in a bloody encounter with Sebastian Fundora. But no one could have imagined the brutality Tim would suffer tonight. Even Damian Lillard was left in shock after the ex-WBO champ got knocked out in what was a completely one-sided affair.
If you went to the kitchen at the opening bell to make some popcorn, hoping to enjoy it while watching Tszyu in action, there is a good chance that you missed the fight. That’s because it only took the undefeated Bakhram 3 rounds to obliterate the Australian and retain his IBF super-welterweight title.
A shocked Dame, who is more than a boxing aficionado with an offseason regimen including combat training, couldn’t believe his eyes as he tweeted, “What I just watched happen to Tim Tszyu.”

Well, it was not what happened, but the way it happened that took everyone by surprise. While things looked even in the first round, the Russian’s height and three-and-a-half-inch reach advantage quickly turned into a problem for Tszyu.
Late in the 2nd round, Bakhram caught Tim with a clean left hook, sending him to the ground. But the beatdown was only beginning. Although the Australian recovered from the first blow, he was taken down by another left only a minute after the first knockdown.
While the will to fight was still there, Tszyu was struggling to even find his footing after the two big blows, and just seconds later, he hit the mat once again, this time because of a right hook from the champion. Surely, the fight was over. Everyone thought so. But the challenger got back up once again, even more dazed and groggy than ever before. As expected, it was more of the same in the third round as he got knocked down for the fourth and final time with another brutal left hook. Although the bout miraculously continued despite the Australian looking out of his senses, his crew threw in the towel just seconds later, finally ending his misery.

Obviously, Tim Tszyu was heartbroken after the knockout loss to the Russian. With 24 career wins, he is not used to being on the losing side. But his only two losses have come in his most recent bouts, and that has been a brutal experience for the boxer. With his head facing the ground in disappointment, Tim revealed his thoughts after the bout, “The fu*k just happened? Like, what did I get hit with? Couldn’t regroup and I don’t know man, just s–t doesn’t go your way and you just have to bounce back, you know.”
Moreover, tonight’s loss got him thinking about his craft. “I was positive after the Fundora, but I got to find more answers with this one you know like this didn’t go according to script. It felt a little bit different.”

Although the Australian claims to have felt unbelievable before the fight and even had great prep, it turned into a disaster as soon as he entered the ring. But he gave Bakhram Murtazaliev credit for winning the fight fair and square, “He got me man and he was the better man on this night, and we live and we learn.” Do you think the Australian will bounce back from the two straight losses?
