Is the Sixers' Big Three dream just a mirage with these constant injury setbacks?

The Sixers just can’t catch a break. Well, everyone was hyped after it was revealed earlier today that Joel Embiid will likely make his season debut next Tuesday. And the team just got Paul George back in the last game following the long hiatus because of his knee injury. We will finally get to see the Sixers’ Big Three in action. Many thought so. However, that dream might be at risk once again after Tyrese Maxey suffered an unfortunate injury during tonight’s Clippers’ game.

As the third quarter came to a close, Maxey was seen favoring his right hamstring just before the buzzer sounded. Despite his team trailing, he did not start the following quarter. It was later announced that he would not return for the rest of the game due to hamstring soreness, finishing the night with only 12 points.

The Sixers continued to struggle in Maxey’s absence, ultimately getting blown out by James Harden and his team. This marks their sixth loss in seven games. The Sixers are undoubtedly hoping Maxey’s injury isn’t serious, as it could further delay the debut of their Big Three. Following his shove on Marcus Hayes, Embiid was suspended for three games, ruling him out for tonight’s game as well as the upcoming matchups against the Lakers and Hornets later this week.

And we could see him back on the court in the home encounter against the Knicks. Surely, the City of Brotherly Love wants to see Maxey on the floor with Embiid and PG avenging their playoff loss from last season. But we are yet to receive an update on his injury.

Well, Maxey impressed everyone this summer when he looked extremely bulked up during one of his interviews. It was clear that he has been working on increasing his strength. Surprisingly, he even got ‘drug tested’ by the league after netizens hyped up his physique. During Media Day, Tyrese revealed that getting his body right was one of his main focuses this off season, saying “it was difficult” leading the charge for the Sixers last season. Of course, he had a breakout year last season, averaging 25.9 points. But it also took a toll on his body.

Sure enough, he was reaping the benefits of his hard work as the season started with him averaging 30.2 points heading into tonight’s game. But the hamstring injury could halt his momentum going forward. And that will only increase the Sixers’ problems as they try to turn things around after the abysmal start.
