Can the Sixers' Big Three overcome these early injuries to make a serious title run?

Are the Sixers in trouble? With their newly formed Big Three, they have been projected as a major threat to win it all. But the regular season hasn’t even tipped off and the injury bug has already begun shaking their aspirations. First Joel Embiid. Then, Paul George. And tonight, Tyrese Maxey has joined the two superstars with an unfortunate injury of his own.

As the Sixers played their preseason finale against the Magic, Maxey checked into the game as the team’s starting guard. Unfortunately, he was forced to leave the game after only five minutes. It was later reported that he had suffered a right thumb contusion and would not return for the rest of the night. But chances are that it’s not a severe injury because his absence is reportedly just a precautionary measure by the team. With only five minutes of playing time, Maxey finished the night without scoring any points but dished out one assist.

While his thumb contusion might not be too serious, it does add to the team’s concerns as he is the third Sixers star to get injured this preseason. Yes, Paul George hyperextended his knee earlier this week during the Hawks game. Although the injury looked extremely scary in real time and many feared a ligament tear, MRI revealed that it only led to a bone bruise in his knee without any structural damage. But he would still need some recovery time and will likely miss the start of the season.

Meanwhile, Joel Embiid is yet to make an appearance in the preseason since his knee is still under evaluation. Even Nick Nurse said in a recent interview, “He’s not here. He’s at a scheduled assessment of his knee. That was always on the schedule. We are still waiting for what’s next.” Sadly enough, the former MVP is set to have some limitations throughout the season because of the risk of reaggravating the injury. While Embiid is busy healing old bruises, rookie Jared McCain also suffered a scary injury in the last game. And Maxey’s latest injury only adds to the problems.

Have an interesting take?

Well, the Sixers’ Big Three is facing health concerns with the entire season left, and that’s not a good sign for the team. Moreover, the injury bug is not limited to the superstars. It was in the last game that Jared McCain suffered a scary fall after losing his balance mid-air. The reason? He was going for a rebound and fell straight on his back. In visible pain, he laid on the floor for several minutes and was even having trouble breathing. As the medical staff rushed to check on him, McCain kept coughing and writhing in pain.

Sure enough, he left the game immediately and was taken to the hospital to check for possible concussion and other issues. Fortunately, Kelly Oubre Jr. gave an update saying “He’s fine” but did address that it was a lucky escape, “It was very scary. He caught himself luckily. He didn’t fall flat on his back. He’s going to feel it tomorrow. That’s kind of what we were telling him. He just has to kind of take it easy. Make sure he’s 100 percent for opening night.” In the last three games, the Sixers have seen three players get injured and leave the court early. With opening night only a few days away, they would want to avoid such incidents for the rest of the year to keep their title dreams alive. Thoughts?
