The Orlando Magic have been hit hard by injuries to star players, including Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. Since Franz went down, they’ve only managed to snag one win out of four, and on Saturday, they were close to getting blown out by the Miami Heat. As if that wasn’t enough, Moritz Wagner now seems to be dealing with a knee injury.
Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reported that Moe suffered a knee injury with no contact involved during Saturday’s game against the Heat. Wagner couldn’t put much, if any, weight on his left leg as teammates escorted him to the locker room. The camera kept panning to his brother Franz, who seemed to be in absolute disbelief with an extremely disappointed look on his face. USA Today’s Cody Taylor later reported that the team had ruled Moritz out for the rest of the game.

Lately, the Magic have faced a tough road, and now without Moritz, they must fight without their top 4 scorers. Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Moritz Wagner. It’s been a nightmare of an injury season for them, but somehow, they’re still managing to hold onto the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 17-12 record.
Moe had recently put up his career-high 32 points against the Knicks, hitting 10 of 15 shots, including four three-pointers. Along with the scoring outburst, he grabbed six rebounds, stole the ball twice, and dished out one assist in 26 minutes of play. Now who can the Magic rely on for their offensive needs?
Is Moritz Wagner still a contender for the 6th Man of the Year award?
At 24, Moe had bounced around the league, playing for the Lakers, Wizards, and briefly the Celtics, before landing with the Magic as they began rebuilding. Fast forward a few years, and Wagner has become one of the league’s top reserves and a key veteran leader. After a tough loss to the Knicks, Moritz shared his thoughts on what the team needs to focus on: mental strength.
“When you put your energy in the right place, good stuff happens,” he said, highlighting the importance of team growth.

His career-high 32-point game against the Knicks was a testament to his hard work. He’s now scoring double figures in nearly every game, shooting an impressive 56.2% from the field. His secret? “Let the game come to you,” Moritz Wagner explained. It’s a mentality that’s clearly paying off!
While Moe doesn’t have a reputation for defense, he ranks among the NBA’s best at drawing charges. As one of the Magic’s main offensive sparks, his energy and hustle have been contagious. But now, with him injured, the Magic face a tough challenge—someone else will need to step up in his place.
Moritz Wagner’s energy and hustle have been a big part of what made the Orlando side so competitive this season, and losing him might leave a noticeable void in their rotation. As for his epic Sixth Man of the Year campaign, Moritz was firmly in the conversation.
