Tragedy strikes the Nets! They were looking for a fresh start after their recent blockbuster trade with the Lakers to acquire D’Angelo Russell and Maxwell Lewis. And both stars made their highly-anticipated debut for the team tonight against the Raptors. But the joyful moment quickly turned tragic when Lewis suffered a scary injury after a dangerous collision with Jakob Poeltl. Well, the unfortunate incident occurred in the closing minutes of the final quarter.

The outcome was already decided in the Raptors’ favor, as they had a commanding 21-point lead. Lewis then checked into the game and scored his first points in the Nets uniform with a smooth three-pointer. However, as he was running back on defense after the made shot, Poeltl accidentally stepped on his right foot, causing Maxwell to lose his footing. And he fell backward on the hardwood.

In a scary sight to follow, Brooklyn’s newcomer began grimacing in pain and favoring his left knee. Seeing the youngster struggle, the play was stopped and his teammates and staff rushed to check on him. Well, it was clear that he was severely hurt. What was even scarier was that the hoopster could not even walk off the court on his own, and had to be carried to the locker room. Sure enough, he was done for the night and his Nets’ debut ended in heartbreak with only 3 points in one minute.

Obviously, this is devastating for the second-year player because he finally got a chance to play for the first time since December 8, and it ended with him getting injured. Surely, the Nets would be hoping that it’s not an ACL injury, which could rule him out for the season.

Jordi Fernandez sends “positive energy” to Maxwell Lewis as the Nets await an injury update after the MRI

Although it’s been only a few days since Maxwell Lewis moved to Brooklyn, his teammates and the Nets staff were devastated by his injury. Head coach Jordi Fernandez addressed it after the game, “Only thing you can think about is the young kid Max. Goes in, he’s ready to play, he makes a three. And we don’t know the extent of the injury. Obviously, we will MRI, but all our group is thinking about him and we are sending all positive energy. So, that’s what’s most important. The rest of the rest of the game doesn’t matter.”

Meanwhile, the star who accompanied Maxwell in the move from LA, D’Lo, also made his debut tonight. Sure enough, he had a decent showing, finishing with 22 points and eight assists. However, that was not enough to get his new team the win as they lost by 17 points.

Well, the Nets have lost three straight games, and they will face the Bucks tomorrow. Hopefully, there will be a positive update on Maxwell’s injury before they take the floor again. Lewis may not play for a few games, but a positive update on him will at least help lift the spirits of his new Brooklyn teammates, who understandably seemed quite worried today.
