The Dallas Mavericks might have something serious to worry about: their All-Star contender Kyrie Irving. The Mavs registered a blowout 147-97 win over the Utah Jazz to reach the 5th seed of the Western Conference. While they had all the opportunity to climb up the ladder further, the franchise might have a serious concern as Uncle Drew walked off the court after an injury.
Irving joined hands with Luka Doncic & Co. during the 2022-23 mid-season. The experts expected the team to hit it right off the bat, but things didn’t pan out that way. The team even failed to qualify for the playoffs. Fast forward to this season, the team has displayed one of the dominant efforts of the league so far. But, there seemed to be a speed bump on its expressway.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have been complimenting each other well so far in the season. Doncic, who had recently embraced fatherhood, has been dominating the court with points explosion. On the other hand, Irving has taken up the role of facilitator and crunch-time scorer.
However, it all came to a halt on Friday night. With less than 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Irving ran up on the lane for a layup and extracted a foul call when the Portland Trail Blazers‘ Duop Reath made contact. The star went off balance and fell on the floor. Despite the foul call, Irving’s teammate Dwight Powell went up for a rebound and ended up landing on Uncle Drew’s right ankle.
The 8x All-Star stayed on the ground for a while, holding on to his ankle in pain. Later, he dropped both free throws and clocked out of the game.
