It’s a clean sweep for the Boston Celtics at home with a 2-0 record in the East Finals. However, for game three the Celtics head to Indianapolis, and things aren’t looking great. The concern is regarding Jrue Holiday, who up to this point has been extremely impactful in both the game. Holiday combined for 43 points, 10 rebounds and 18 assists in wins while shooting 16-23.

According to reports by Spotrac’s Keith Smith,” Jrue Holiday has been added to the injury report for Game 3. He’s questionable with a non-COVID illness, per the Celtics.” This is a problem for Boston on the defensive end, as Luke Kornet is also questionable and Kristaps Porziņģis remains out. However, there’s been an update.

The same reporter came forward just minutes ago and wrote, “Jrue Holiday is available to play in Game 3, per the Celtics”. In case the situation changes again and if the former NBA champion is absent in Game 3, the series might be extended because of his previous performances. In game 1, the 14-year vet saw action for 48 out of 53 minutes.

Offensively, he consistently accelerated the tempo, drove aggressively toward the basket, and delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a season-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Additionally, he made 4 out of 8 attempted three-pointers and went a perfect 4 for 4 at the free-throw line.

Most notably, he has taken on the primary defensive assignment of guarding Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana’s key offensive player, and has limited him to just 2-of-6 shooting when directly matched up against each other. So, the main question here is of the Celtic’s survival.

How will the Celtics survive without Jrue Holiday?

The Celtics have adapted to playing without Porzingis this offseason, but Holiday’s absence would pose a much greater challenge. He has been indispensable for Boston throughout the season, particularly in this series against Indiana.

However, the Celtics rely on a core group of six players. With one already sidelined, the prospect of having only four healthy players from that group raises concerns. The Pacers have maintained an undefeated record at home in the postseason thus far, and now, the Celtics may have to attempt to win Game 3 without one of their key contributors.

Haliburton is also facing an injury concern heading into Game 3, as he is listed as questionable due to left hamstring soreness. This hamstring issue previously affected him during the regular season, leading to a decline in his performance when he played through it in January and February. If he is dealing with discomfort or unable to play, Boston would find themselves in a more favorable position to manage Holiday’s absence. Who will game 3 go to?
