The Chicago Bulls may have a tough road ahead of them! Injury woes don’t seem to end for them, as one or other player continues to lodge up on the injury report. Tonight, the Bulls benched Zach LaVine and Dalen Terry due to injuries in their match-up against the Toronto Raptors. And even before the game could end, they had another player on the IR. This time it’s Josh Giddey. Moreover, the Aussie baller’s injury could turn fatal for the team, considering his injury history.
Josh Giddey, the newest member of the legendary team, suffered an ankle injury during the second half of the Monday night match-up. In the late end of the third quarter, with around four minutes left on the clock, Giddey seemed to have awkwardly stepped and twisted his ankle during a defensive play as he rushed to the perimeter to guard Gradey Dick.
The Aussie guard fell on the floor, holding his right ankle, screaming in pain. The trainers immediately rushed to the spot and escorted him to the locker room as he limped his way through the tunnel. Moments later, the team announced that the 22-year-old star would be out for the remainder of the game with the right ankle injury.

In the absence of Zach LaVine, Josh Giddey stepped up for the team, putting up an all-round effort. Before he limped off the court, the star guard had played 24 minutes, posting 11 points with 9 rebounds and 6 assists. If not for the ankle injury, Giddey could have even dropped a triple-double. Nevertheless, the important question is, how long will the guard miss out on dealing with the ankle injury? Moreover, he also has a notable injury history that kept him inactive for a brief duration during the 2024 off-season.
Josh Giddey’s problematic ankle injury woes
If you type in ‘Josh Giddey ankle injury’ on a search engine, you can find multiple videos of the guard tweaking his ankle from various seasons in the NBA. While it’s common for a ballplayer to roll their ankle, in Giddey’s case, it’s a bit outrageous. Moreover, during his last play for Team Australia in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the star baller seemed to have tweaked his ankle a bit rough.

During the Bulls’ Media Day ahead of the season, Giddey revealed that he had ruptured his ankle ligament at the Paris Olympics. The star had injured his anterior talofibular ligament and it turned out to be much more serious than he imagined. Speaking to the media, he said, “I’ll be fine… We started scrimmaging with 14-second shot clocks to emphasize the pace we want to play. Once it becomes a habit, this team’s going to be pretty scary in the open court.”
However, 26 games into the season, Giddey seemed to have aggravated his injury. Most importantly, the star didn’t reveal which ankle he had injured during the Olympics. So, there are chances that he might have injured his left ankle then. Anyway, let’s wait for the team to provide an update on the timeline of his return. Do you think Giddey’s absence will affect the Bulls? Let us know in the comments.
