Problems mount for the Dallas Mavericks, as another player joins the injury list. Tonight, the shorthanded Texas side took on the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum. At the late end of the first half, the Mavs’ one of the dominant big men, Daniel Gafford, limped to the locker room amid the team’s fighting effort against the second-seeded team.
The team announced that the star center sustained a left ankle sprain, after landing awkwardly. On the positive side, the star had picked himself up and limped off to the locker room without any support. Considering Luka Doncic’s long absence, this is a tremendous blow for the Mavs.

However, the updates don’t get any better after that, as the team ruled him out for the rest of the game. It was a tough night for Daniel Gafford right from the tip-off. Even though the Grizzlies have several options on the floor, one of their key strength was their stacked frontcourt.
The team has a 7 ‘4 big man, Zach Edey, in the center position and 6 ’10 former DPOY Jaren Jackson Jr. in the power forward position. Competing these two powerhouses near the rim was undoubtedly a herculean task. Gafford, during his 8-minute stint, could generate 5 points and a rebound before injuring his ankle.

It was a painful sight indeed. During the 8-minute mark in the second quarter, Gafford, who was near the arc, rushed to the rim to collect an offensive rebound. He wasn’t alone there. The big man competed against the Mavs’ John Konchar and the duo collided in the air before the star awkwardly landed on his left ankle. He was on the floor for a while, dealing with agonizing pain, until the medical staff approached. And he eventually got on his feet and limped to the locker room.
Amid Daniel Gafford’s injury, the Mavs find themselves in a big mess
Heading into the Grizzlies game, the Mavericks were on a 4-game losing streak. One of the main reasons for such a state was the recurring injuries. Luka Doncic, the centerpiece of the Mavs’ offense unit, sustained a calf strain and was expected to be out for at least a month. In the previous game, the Slovenian star was seen struggling to even put pressure on his left foot, weeks after the injury.

On top of that, the latest news on Kyrie Irving has put the Texas fans in misery. Uncle Drew missed tonight’s game, citing a back injury. However, the recent update revealed that he has a bulging disc issue and could be out on the sidelines for an unspecified time period. Coach Jason Kidd, speaking of the injury, said, “He’s out, so there’s nothing I can speculate or comment on. It’s been reported he’s out a week or two.” And Kidd asked for 48 hours to give an update on his return.
And tonight, Daniel Gafford’s injury has ultimately cost them the game, which was evenly poised until his presence. Currently, the team has listed him on Day-to-Day status. Most importantly, it doesn’t look serious compared to the other two injuries. What do you make of it? Let us know in the comments.
