The Nets have found it extremely tough to find their footing this season. Starting the season with injuries to key players, things have not improved on that front. Sitting on an abysmal 13-21 record, things need to change for Brooklyn to make it to the playoffs. Heading into the game against the 76ers, the Nets provided an update on key players of their squad, namely Cam Thomas and Cam Johnson.

And if you thought it couldn’t get worse for them, well, it has. The Nets announced Cam Thomas had suffered another hamstring blow that will have him on the sidelines for an extended amount of time. Additionally, their forward Cam Johnson also suffered a right ankle sprain when the Nets beat the Bucks. Johnson is set to miss three games owing to this injury.

The Nets noted that both players would be reevaluated before they set out for their upcoming trip to the West Coast. Brooklyn is hopeful of their return before they need to play teams like the Jazz on the road. However, despite optimism, fans are feeling anything but optimistic. The worsening injury situation has left many crying about the Nets and their long-term planning. Even more so with the Cam-duo’s absence versus heated rivals, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Nets fans seem tired after Cam Johnson and Cam Thomas’ injury update

Nets fans did not take kindly to the recent injury update shared by their team. Many expressed their dissatisfaction with the fitness situation of key players in the squad. “Get Cam Thomas on a new strength and conditioning program. Maybe pilates too. Wtf,” wrote a fan on X. And they aren’t wrong for saying this. The 23-year-old missed 13 straight games from 27 November to 27 December last year due to a left hamstring strain. Now, he’s out indefinitely because of the same injury, and it isn’t hard to see why fans are miffed.

Some Nets fans were more sympathetic to their team’s plight than others, though. “Man hamstrings have been killing this team the past few years,” wrote one individual, lamenting the injury crisis that has ravaged their team. Their assessment is spot-on!

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Nets overcome their injury woes, or is this season already a lost cause?

Have an interesting take?

Persistent and recurring hamstring injuries to current players like Cam Thomas and former players like James Harden, while he played at the Nets, present the formation of a seriously worrying pattern. So, maybe the Nets do need a new strength and conditioning program, all things considered. It is not about staying fit for the playoffs anymore, because they might not even reach there anymore!

However, some fans, who did not like what they saw from their team, hinted that there was something deeper at play. “Shameless tanking,” an X user replied to the Nets’ post, pointing their finger at their team. A very serious accusation indeed! Even so, in their defense, the Nets are looking and playing like a team in dire need of rebuilding.

With rumors of the Brooklyn side looking to make big moves next season, perhaps there’s some truth to the speculations. And one player who the Nets may be looking to trade is the aforementioned Cam Johnson. And Nets fans might share this sentiment as one wrote, “Trade cam Johnson to the nuggets pls.”

Recently, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that there are apparently “many suitors” in line for the Nets forward’s signature. In lieu, the Nets are looking to receive multiple first-round picks in the next NBA Draft. Could Cooper Flagg be a future acquisition?

Despite a somewhat mixed reaction to this injury, it is clear that a sizable portion of the Nets fandom is losing faith in their team. With accusations like these flying around, something needs to change at the Nets. And quick!
