Scary sights in Washington! The Wizards headed into tonight’s Knicks clash looking for redemption after their weekend’s OT loss to the same side. And the home team even took an early lead in the first quarter. However, Jalen Brunson and Co. bounced back and quickly turned the game around in their favor. The Wizards’ trouble, however, exponentially grew when their star rookie, Bub Carrington, was forced to leave the floor after a scary and unfortunate incident. It happened late in the third quarter.
As Bub was trying to guard OG Anunoby during a drive to the basket, the rookie lost his footing inside the paint and fell to the floor. Unfortunately, while he landed, his head slammed into the ground first! Sure enough, Bub immediately held his head in immense agony and lay on the floor while the play continued. Seeing him struggle, the referee blew the whistle, and the staff rushed to check on him. Visibly shaken up by the blow, Carrington was carried off the hardwood in a wheelchair and rushed to the locker room.
Adding to the concerns, it was later confirmed he would not return for the remainder of the game. Reason? Post-traumatic headache.

Well, Carrington’s night ended early with only 6 points and five assists. As expected, the Wizards could not bounce back after his departure and got blown out by twenty points. Moreover, the injury could halt Bub’s momentum amid his stellar rookie season.
“Steal of the draft” Bub Carrington’s ROTY claim might be in jeopardy because of injury
Even before the season began, the Panthers alum was deemed the “Biggest steal of the draft” in a league-conducted GM survey. Sure, he was tied at that spot with five other rookies, but it was still a massive recognition by the top executives. Although Bub was selected 14th in the draft by the Blazers and then traded to the Wizards, he could easily have been a lottery pick. After all, he was the second player in Pittsburgh history to score a triple-double in his college debut. Moreover, he was also part of the ACC All-Rookie team.

Sure enough, Bub has lived up to that standard even in the NBA as he is currently leading all rookies in assists (3.8). And he has also shown that he can put the ball in the basket when needed as he is averaging 9.1 points. That’s the reason he is ranked 7th in the Rookie of the Year race. Unfortunately, this prestigious ranking could take a hit after tonight if the blow to the head forces him to miss games.
So, Bub Carrington and the Wizards fans would be praying for his speedy recovery so that the rookie can continue impressing with his talent and hopefully end the year with some silverware.
