Is Anthony Davis's injury-prone nature a ticking time bomb for the Lakers' championship hopes?

They say your best ability is availability. And that has been a major pain point for Anthony Davis since joining the Lakers. Well, those concerns came alive in tonight’s Pistons game. While AD has started the season red hot, even leading the league in points per game, he suffered a massive injury scare during tonight’s road encounter.

Davis drove to the basket for a layup attempt as the Lakers struggled to make a comeback in the last quarter. Yes, he was able to draw a foul on the play. Unfortunately, he had an awkward landing on his left foot, which aggravated his ankle. Sure enough, AD looked in visible pain as he hobbled to the free-throw line.

While he continued playing and even told JJ Redick that he was OK, the forward was seen grabbing and stretching his injured ankle. And it was clear that he was hurt as he hobbled down the court, trying his best to get back on defense. Seeing the superstar struggle to keep up with the opponents, Redick called a timeout just seconds later. In a scary sight, Davis instantly fell to the floor and began favoring his left ankle, looking in serious pain as his teammates and the Lakers staff checked on him.

Obviously, the Laker Nation was worried because AD was already on the injury report with a hip soreness heading into this game. And a hurt ankle only adds to those problems. Surprisingly, The Brow could finish the game despite the injury scare and even dropped 37 points. Unfortunately, that was not enough to avoid an embarrassing loss.

Have an interesting take?

While AD was able to continue his dominant form despite the hurt ankle, he revealed after the game that he has been dealing with this issue for quite some time, “I’ve been managing that since this summer honestly.”

Sure enough, he looked extremely disappointed after the loss and revealed why the ankle looked so bad tonight. “Just kind of just landed directly on the spot that’s been killing me,” said AD.

However, he hopes to figure it out in the coming days. Well, Davis has been having an MVP-caliber season so far, averaging 31.8 points. But if the injury causes him to miss games, all his effort might go to waste. Of course, fans are worried about his health because, as talented as AD is, he has only played more than seventy games in a season once during his Lakers tenure.

The rest of the time, he has suffered a setback due to injuries. Hopefully, this season will not be the same.
