Two young guns go after each other early in the game! Tonight, the promising Detroit Pistons took on the Washington Wizards in Capital One Arena. The Detroit side pressed the gas right from the word go, producing a 10-point lead in the first quarter. Setting the tone for the game in the very first quarter, the team’s 19-year-old rookie, Ron Holland Jr., engaged in a nasty act further amplifying the team’s mood for the night.

With less than three minutes left in the first quarter, the Wizards inbounded the ball after Tobias Harris’s bucket. At that time, Holland Jr., who guarded Wizards’ Bilal Coulibaly right from the coast, exchanged words with the 20-year-old. Coulibaly, who didn’t react much to the situation, continued to go about his business. However, Holland didn’t seem to stop, as he continued to persuade the Wizards player, throwing words at him and standing right in front of his face.

Nevertheless, the ref and players interfered at the right moment to separate the two, and Holland Jr. rightly received a technical foul, while the coach sent him to the bench. Later in the game, a report revealed that Bilal Coulibaly headed to the locker room with an injury. Notably, the Wizards’ forward played 26 minutes and checked out in the third quarter with less the four minutes remaining on the clock.

Bilal Coulibaly didn’t leave the floor because of his scuffle with Holland Jr. but with a knee injury, as per the Washington Post’s Varun Shanker. After clocking out in the third quarter, the rising star didn’t return to the floor. Notably, during their scuffle in the first quarter, Coulibaly seemed to have slammed his left knee against Holland.

Is Pistons’ Ron Holland Jr. a menace on the floor?

The 19-year-old forward came into the league as the 5th overall pick selected by the Pistons. The Detroit side has a history of physical play in the late 80s and they are famously known as the ‘Bad Boy Pistons’. Bill Laimbeer, Dennis Rodman, and a few others bested their opponents with their aggressive physical play. Michael Jordan literally had to put on some muscles to defeat them.

In that lineup, the Pistons seemed to have found a successor. Well, it’s a little too early to call him their successor since it’s been only a few games into his rookie season. However, an incident during the game between the Phoenix Suns and Pistons has brought him right into the conversation.

During a play, Suns’ Royce O’Neale and Ron Holland Jr. went after a loose ball. O’Neale wrapped his body around the ball first, and Holland didn’t seem to give in easily. The duo rolled on the floor while everyone expected the ref to call jump ball, but he didn’t. Hilariously, the tussle between the duo went on for about 40 seconds, leaving the crowd and both benches riled up. In the end, it was O’Neale, who retrieved the ball. Nevertheless, we have a player to look out for. Will he turn into the next Dennis Rodman? Let us know in the comments.
