“He’s mastered the game,” were the words Kevin Durant chose to describe the Mavericks star, Luka Doncic. This came after the Phoenix Suns got a win over Dallas earlier this year. The Suns’ forward has been in the league long enough to identify Doncic’s greatness. Besides his specular performance last season, what stood out for Durant was the 25-year-old’s “advanced, bright, brilliant basketball mind.” KD reminded everyone again how highly he rated Doncic when he appeared on an episode of the Boardroom Talks alongside Sauce Gardner.
In that episode, he disclosed his starting five in the NBA 2K game where he named Doncic as the PG, snubbing Stephen Curry. Klay Thompson was also another surprise inclusion. KD’s team caused quite a stir and the Slim Reaper reiterated his belief in the side he picked. Kevin Durant shared his dream starting 5 in the 2K25 lineup on X once again. Sitting at the top of his list was Doncic, followed by his future teammate Klay Thompson, the Suns’ superstar himself, LeBron James, and Joel Embiid. The post caption read, “y’all can debate” making it clear that the 14-time All-Star wasn’t going to change his mind.

However, it didn’t go down well with the fans. As soon as they saw the post, the NBA fans quickly flocked to the comment section to question Durant’s choices and share their own opinions on it.
Fans react to Kevin Durant’s NBA 2K25 dream team
The biggest shock in the team was the absence of Stephen Curry. After their Olympic bromance, it was even more puzzling to see KD keeping his former teammate out. The fans were relentlessly jumping on the take from the 35-year-old. A fan commented, “What did Steph do to u?”, seemingly interested to know if there’s a beef between the two. While on the surface, there’s no lack of respect between Steph and KD, even though their Warriors stint together wasn’t quite a romantic one. Sure, they won the chips together, but since KD left the franchise, he is yet to win another one, leading to many questioning his legacy. So is there any resentment for that? Surely KD will say no.

Pointing out KD’s Doncic affinity, another enthusiast wrote, “bro wants to go to Dallas apparently”. The Suns forward’s future at the franchise remained doubtful since their exit in the postseason. While KD isn’t moving anywhere this season, a move can be on the cards next season. Will Dallas be the place to be for Durant? Only time will tell.

One comment read, “U picked a washed klay over ur own teammate Devin Booker?”. Klay’s selection in the dream team was a major talking point. Given Devin Booker‘s personal relations and professional skills, he was a surprising pick. Klay’s recent struggles following his injury are also another reason for fans to go berserk over the selected team. Even in the game, Klay is rated 81 whereas Book is the 12th highest rated in the game with a 93 overall. So yeah, KD has some explaining to do there.
U picked a washed klay over ur own teammate Devin Booker?😭😭😭😭

“LUKA OVER CURRY???”, added an astonished X user. While Curry showed class is permanent during the Olympics, Doncic’s stature in the game as one of the top PGs cannot be debated. The Slovenian had a season to remember with the Mavs, losing the MVP title to Nikola Jokic. Apart from 3-pts shooting, Doncic easily outperformed Curry in all categories, so KD’s choice wasn’t really a bad one.

“Steph/Luka backcourt”, a fan wrote, highlighting his preference to see a Luka-Curry backcourt. That is surely a stuff of dreams from many. And KD had the opportunity to do that in his virtual team. But at the end of the day, it’s a game, a fun part of life that KD himself said during the episode. Given his outspoken nature on the internet, a clapback from Durant is expected after the mass backlash, so that’s one thing to look out for in this 2K saga.
