From a young age, Vlatko Čančar was determined to prove himself in the world of basketball but, many odds were stacked against him. Well, it doesn’t matter to him as every setback, every challenge, only fueled his drive. Slowly but surely, he has carved out a spot in one of the world’s most competitive basketball leagues. With every game, he showed that persistence and grit can take you further than talent alone. And as he continues to grow, let’s look at the people who supported him throughout.

What is Vlatko Čančar’s ethnicity? Where is the Nuggets star from?

The NBA has the majority of players from America and only a few from other nations. And one of the few players is Vlatko Čančar. His story begins in Eastern Europe, in the beautiful coastal city of Koper, Slovenia, where he grew up. But wait, his ethnicity is mixed. While he grew up in Slovenia, his roots stretch far beyond its borders. Both of his parents, Ivo and Nevena Cancar, come from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which add a rich layer of cultural depth to his identity. The hooper’s Slovenian nationality might have shaped his basketball journey, but the heart of his upbringing is deeply Bosnian. Today, he carries that blend of cultures in everything he does.

However, if you ask him, who were his biggest cheerleaders? The answer is pretty simple, it’s his parents who have all remained his biggest supporters, a source of strength and inspiration on his journey.

Who are Vlatko Čančar’s parents?

Growing up, he was always surrounded by the unwavering support for the people around him, especially his parents. Starting from his mother, Nevena, who worked as a cleaner, and led a simple life, her love for her son was anything but simple. Just like every mother’s love is, she was always there, cheering him, and supporting his dreams, without even thinking if their finance would support him or not.

Meanwhile, his father, Ivo, wasn’t behind either. In Bosnia, he worked in the port before moving to Slovenia. Although he remained a quiet figure, his strength and determination were reflected in his son’s work ethic on the court. Like wasn’t easy for his parents. Yet, he admired their resilience, which motivated him to push through any obstacles that came his way.

Today, both parents proudly watch their son play in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets. He doesn’t usually post about them, but once in a post, the hooper posted a picture with his parents captioning, “Moji največji navijači 😘😘,” which simply means “My biggest fans 😘😘.” These three words perfectly summed up the role they played in his life—steadfast and full of love.
