Trevelin Queen’s journey to the NBA has been anything but easy. The Orlando Magic guard back in 2016 spent a night in East Oakland tossing and turning in his seat, trying to get himself to sleep in a packed 1982 Delta 1982 Royale. The owner of the car and Queen’s college teammate was already asleep in the driver’s seat whereas his two other friends were trying to get some rest in the two-row car.
Although Queen and his teammates knew the neighborhood was quiet, for now, that could change at a moment’s notice. However, they didn’t have much of a choice after being kicked out of the retirement home, where they had been staying earlier. The cause of which a noise complaint, which was impossible to control given the circumstances. There were 10 players living in the two-bedroom apartment, sleeping on air mattresses just to make things work somehow!
Although Queen’s life has been full of setbacks, that didn’t stop the Orlando Magic Guard from making it onto the biggest stage of them all. The Magic star not only lived in a retirement home and slept in a car to make his hooping dreams come true but he also traveled around the country in pursuit of a Division I opportunity. That he did land eventually at New Mexico State, from where he would make it to the NBA but not without a few more setbacks.
