Back in the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, he faced the tough challenge of being away from his family. He had planned for a visit from his brother, his mom, and other relatives, but it didn’t happen. Because the pandemic kept them 5,000 miles away. “I was by myself, trying to FaceTime them every day,” Kleber said with the disappointment of lost opportunities. The pandemic had taken away what would have been precious time together, but he had his family visit him often.
Ferdi is often seen attending his younger brother’s games. The two continue to visit each other, keeping that family connection alive despite the distance. Once during his time with the Dallas Mavs, he said that he calls his family every day post workouts, as Germany is 7 hours ahead of Dallas, just to make sure that he stays connected with his loved ones. By this, it’s clear that, though he keeps their details private, they hold a significant place in his heart and are the cornerstone of his success.
