“Being the youngest on the team, I think that he’s learning so much from these vets,” Sandra Walsh once said, watching her son Jordan Walsh navigate his NBA career with the Boston Celtics. His journey to the NBA wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter. Today as a young player on a veteran-filled squad, like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, he’s taking in lessons from the best. While this is a great start, since he was a small kid, he was already very strong about his passion. So without wasting much of our time, let’s look at the story that shaped him to very he is today.
Where is Jordan Walsh from? Exploring his childhood stories.

Jordan comes from a family that has supported him at his lowest point and even today. He grew up with a brother named Joshua who along with his parents, John and Sandra Walsh, have played pivotal roles in shaping who he is today. Before we start with their story, here’s a disclaimer: The Walsh family is a great example of how crucial is family support in shaping their kid’s careers. They stood by his side helping him make important decisions in his life.
One such decision was choosing the University of Arkansas for his college basketball career. John and Sandra believed it was the right choice for him, even though there were plenty of other schools on the table. Before the hooper made the final decision, his parents took him on trips to Arkansas, Texas, Arizona State, Kansas, Oklahoma, and TCU. They made sure he had the freedom to choose what felt best for him. According to Sandra, they gave Jordan all the space he needed, while still being there to guide him through it all. In the end, Arkansas was the right fit.

Growing up, little Jordon showed signs of being a natural athlete from an early age. Apart from basketball, he also played football, like his dad, who was an NFL player. But basketball had his heart. But, what surprises us is that he was just three years old when he started playing basketball. When other kids watched cartoons he was already crafting his future. Sandra once recalls how little Jordon made a basket with a ball almost twice his size. It was clear early on that this kid had something special. By the time he was six, the hoopster was already dominating local competitions in a YMCA league in Dallas.
But, not every way was easy. When he was nine, he was diagnosed with alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes complete hair loss. His mother remembers those early years as tough, especially with kids teasing him. Kids at school tolled hard on him but it also extended to his family. This made him cover his head to hide his condition. While this is too much to take for any kid, we wonder how the family took it. But you know what, on the basketball court, it was a different story. He found confidence and solace in the game. But, the reason why he was so much into Basketball is because it was his escape from the teasing.

Jordan Walsh's resilience: Is family support the secret weapon behind his NBA success?
Have an interesting take?
Sandra recalled a moment where, despite being teased, Jordan still outplayed the other kids. “He was just a kid — and he’s dunking the ball over all these other kids,” she said. Isn’t this a strong resilience? The teasing never stopped but the talent overpowered and did all the talking. However, now that we know his family, and what he went through in childhood, let’s see what it meant to the family when he was drafted.
How did Jordon Walsh’s family react when he was drafted?
What will you do when you see your kid fulfilling their dream? Just like any family, the Walsh family was around and proud of what their kid had achieved. When his name was finally called on Draft Night, his family felt pure joy. Sandra, remembers how nervous he was, and she has never seen her son get so nervous. Jordan was all around the room, unsure if he’d be picked at all. When the Celtics selected him at 38th overall, it was an emotional moment. He almost cried, and Sandra was right there, holding back tears too.
The excitement didn’t end with the announcement. Jordan couldn’t contain his joy, and Sandra echoed his feelings. “Jordan was so excited. So automatically, that meant I was excited as well,” she said, still trying to express just how big the moment felt. I can’t imagine the mix of emotions they went through, especially after all the years of hard work.
The Walsh family has been all in since that moment. Though they still call Dallas home, Sandra and John made sure to be in Boston whenever they could. She works remotely, so she travels to watch as many games as possible. But nothing beats the energy of TD Garden. “When they say it’s ‘different here,’ it really is different here,” she shared. The atmosphere is electric, and being there to watch her son live out his dream must be surreal. The support they give him, and the pride they must feel, is incredible. Now, that’s a wrap at his family stories so let’s look into the other important part of the article, his religion.
